Straw surveys usually do not result in many useful information. Like straw men, they are constructs that are supposed to distract; They are not scientific surveys, the sample size is generally not statistically valid and so on.
But sometimes they can uncover a trend. At CPAC 2025, one of the events was the CPAC straw survey, the results of which were published on the last day. The survey preferred the participants of the Republicans 2028 presidential nomination. This survey is engaging due to the respondents; CPAC participants are conservative activists, committed, involved and informed, and they probably represent the most likely cohort of people to coordinate in republican primary elections and in general elections.
The CPAC 2025 straw survey for the 2028 presidential election was a blowout. The overwhelming favorite: Vice President JD Vance.
Sixty percent of the 1,022 participants of CPAC stated that they would support Vance as future GOP standard carriers. Twelve percent said they would support Trump’s former advisor and right-wing media personality Steve Bannon, while seven percent said the same about the Florida governor Ron Desantis (R).
Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and Trump’s UN ambassador candidate Elise Stefanik (Rn.Y.) each received three percent support. Donald Trump Jr., Director of the National Secret Services Tulsi Gabbard and Vivek Ramaswamy, who is expected to start a governor offer in Ohio next week, received two percent.
This should not be a surprise. On the one hand, a sitting vice president, unless he simply does not have the job, always wants a great advantage when the huge chair is cleared. Primary voters already know him (or you) and there is a track record to examine.
But in this case there is another fact: JD Vance is a rock star. The VP opened CPAC 2025, and in its comments one of the most convincing moments was his advice for newborn men.

The Vice President has a convincing life story; He is very bright, well-spoken and occasionally drops an off-color note, but for many people who only make it more assignable. He has achieved a lot while he was still quite newborn and is still proud of his backwältler.
If he runs, he would be a forceful candidate.

The Arkansas GouVerneur Sarah Sanders (R), the Senator of Florida, Rick Scott (R), the secretary of home protection, Kristi Noem, and Trump’s former GOP Presidential -main competitor Nikki Haley received all support. Four percent said they were undecided.
It is doubtful that each of these people runs.
2028 is still a way away. Until then, everything could happen. But now, for almost four years, it looks like Jd Vance is the guy who is to be beat.
