(The hill) – Comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who is known for Criticizing Donald Trump, he appealed to Republicans to reject the former president in his 19-minute opening monologue on Tuesday night, a week before Election Day.
“Today’s monologue is for the Republicans. So if you have someone in your life who is either planning on voting for Trump or is thinking about it, I would ask you to send this to a Republican you love and respect with the request: Ask them, the whole thing to be viewed as a personal matter. Like you. And I promise I won’t make you regret it, because it won’t be our usual Trump brat or any kind of liberal virtual signaling, none of that.” Kimmel said.
“We’re just a week away from an election and we’re very divided, and not just because of Donald Trump, but because of people like me, if I’m candid. “I make fun and belittle people a lot, and that’s not always productive,” the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host admitted. “Am I biased against Donald Trump? Yes. Do I think I have good reasons to be biased towards him? Yes.”
In his monologue, Kimmel then showed clips of the former president and said he believes some Republicans are so busy that they may not really understand the “words coming out of his mouth.”
He included clips from 2015 in which Trump said he wanted to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a up-to-date plan. The clips have been viewed over the years, from when a GOP alternative to ObamaCare never emerged, to the recent presidential debate against Vice President Harris when Trump claimed it “Concepts of a Plan” for health care in the country.
Kimmel then spoke about Trump’s baseless claims that transgender children are undergoing gender reassignment surgery in school.
“Parents can’t send their kids to school with peanut butter, okay?” Kimmel said. “That’s a lie, you need to know that.”
The late-night host then pointed out that most presidents and former presidents don’t seek to brand themselves for personal reasons, even though Trump has sold everything from sneakers to Bibles to NFTs.
“Listen, politics is like sports in many ways. You’re probably just supporting the team your dad has the support for. Maybe you’ve been a Republican all your life, that’s your team, and it feels wrong not to support them or vote for them, but this time you wouldn’t be alone,” Kimmel said.
He later added that he saw someone wearing a T-shirt that said he supported Trump because Trump pisses off the same people who piss him off.
“It’s funny, I understand. Sometimes it feels like no one has a sense of humor anymore. But is that really all we want for America? Annoy each other? I don’t want that gone,” Kimmel said. “If you’ve made it this far, thanks for listening, and whoever wins, once the votes are counted and Trump has more of those votes, we will accept it, even if it doesn’t go our way.” It won’t be us “We like it, but we will accept it because that’s how it has to work.”
“We vote, we count the votes, the winner wins, the loser leaves. This is the only way this country can function and it is up to you to do what you believe is right,” he concluded.
