Vice President Kamala Harris is getting support preparing for her debate with former President Donald Trump from a lawyer who is defending Google in the government’s antitrust lawsuit against the company.
Karen Dunn, the search engine giant’s lead attorney, has been assisting the vice president in preparing for Tuesday’s debate, according to a letter sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).
The letterdated September 10, 2024, raises concerns about potential conflicts of interest, political bias, and alleged collusion between the Biden-Harris administration, Google, and Dunn. Jordan is requesting a briefing on how the Department of Justice is handling these matters, particularly in lightweight of the antitrust case.
“Given existing evidence that the Biden-Harris administration has pressured and colluded with Google to censor the lawful expression of American citizens, we write to request a briefing on how the Department of Justice is working to address potential conflicts of interest and political bias,” the letter said.
Jordan also raises concerns about Dunn’s role as an advisor to the vice president while defending Google in the lawsuit.
“According to recent press reports, Karen Dunn, a ‘lead attorney’ representing Google in the antitrust case United States v. Google LLC, is also leading Vice President Harris’ preparations for the September 10 presidential debate,” Jordan wrote.
The lawmakers claim: “This apparent conflict of interest raises serious concerns about whether Dunn’s relationship with key figures in the Biden-Harris administration creates a conflict of interest that could improperly influence the Department’s conduct in United States v. Google LLC.”
The committee then requests a briefing on how the Justice Department is dealing with the potential conflict of interest, pointing out that Garland has promised to maintain the Justice Department’s independence from political concerns.
On the day President Biden announced his intention to nominate you Attorney General, you promised to “guarantee[] the independence of the Department from partisan influence.’ This claim is difficult to reconcile with reporting that Ms. Dunn is leading preparations for the debate with Vice President Harris while also leading the defense of Google.
“We request a briefing on how the Department of Justice is working to address this and other potential conflicts of interest and political bias in United States v. Google LLC,” Jordan wrote.
The debate takes place as Harris continues to refuse to speak to the press. Harris appeared to try to avoid the debate by complaining about the rules regarding sizzling mics.
Meanwhile, Trump’s team is preparing to attack Harris for her record during her time in office, forcing her to defend her policies as California’s attorney general, senator and vice president.
Harris has faced criticism from both sides of the aisle for her tenure as California’s top prosecutor.
Another Trump campaign official said Trump would go after Harris particularly difficult because of her seven years as San Francisco’s top prosecutor.
Kamala Harris must remember the names of the people who lost their lives in San Francisco because of her delicate anti-crime policies. She must address why criminals like Edwin Ramos were allowed to kill with impunity.
She will have to explain to the nation why she wanted to give drug dealers a free pass. President Trump will not let her lie that she is a law-and-order prosecutor.
The debate could play a crucial role in the election campaign, as it takes place immediately after the end of Harris’ honeymoon phase.
