Keaton steps away from House for another role

Riley Keaton, a Republican, who represented Roane County in the West Virginia House of Delegatesresigned from parliament on Thursday.

In a letter to House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay, Keaton said he believes he is “called to move on.” [his] public service to the people of our state through other opportunities available to them [him] by the grace of God and the trust of Governor Jim Justice. “

Keaton posted on Facebook Thursday afternoon that he had accepted a legislative role with the state Department of Human Services, one of three agencies that would be created by splitting the state Department of Health and Human Services.

lawmakers earlier this year passed a law dissolving the DHHR into the Ministries of Health, Human Resources and Health Facilities, effective January 2024.

“I am honored for the trust [Justice] “This has helped me move forward into my next role in public service,” Keaton said in the letter.

Keaton was first elected in 2020 at the age of 22. His resignation took effect Thursday at 2 p.m.
