Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy joined Fox News on Wednesday morning to share his thoughts on Tuesday night’s presidential debate. Gowdy, who now works as a host for Fox News, was less than ecstatic.
Gowdy sharply attacked Team Trump and said that whoever prepared the former president for the debate should be fired.
While admitting the obvious – the pathetic bias of ABC News anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis, who showed no shame in pulling their chairs behind Harris’ podium – Gowdy called the debate a “land of missed opportunities” while lit Trump’s campaign team admitted that he was unprepared to deal with the situation effectively:
As for last night, I know the President listed several people he fired during his time in office. Maybe he should also list the people who prepared him for the debate last night. It was the land of missed opportunities.
And yes, I understand that the ABC anchors fact-checked his statements and not them. I have breaking news for all Republicans. He is not the first Republican candidate to face media backlash. In fact, every single Republican candidate has faced media backlash. It is her Question, but it is your Answer.
Gowdy, a former prosecutor who advised Trump during his time in Congress and during his tenure in the White House, puts it succinctly. Anyone who knows even a little about the so-called “mainstream” media’s blatant bias against all things Republican and its outpouring of support for Democrats knew before the debate even began that Muir and Davis would step in as Harris’ wingmen and bail her out if she got anywhere near trouble.
Gowdy gave several examples of where he felt Trump was not adequately prepared by the debate prep participants:
It is incredibly powerful to apply the name to personalize the victim. Did you hear President Trump mention the name of a single person? [who was] raped, robbed, killed, [or] Attacked by a border crosser last night? No. I’ve heard of cats and dogs in Ohio.
But I didn’t hear the name of a single person killed because of Kamala Harris. What about the Afghan children who were attacked by drones? Were they mentioned? I mean, any names. To me, last night was a land of missed opportunities.

Fox News host Bill Hemmer asked if Trump should participate in another debate: “Would you do another one, Trey?”
Gowdy’s conclusion:
He better. And he better get a brand fresh debate prep team, because the goal is to tempt him. … The key is not to fall for the bait. I mean, if you get a question about the border or abortion and you’re talking about student loans. She voted against banning partial abortion. That’s an extreme position. She says she’s for Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade not allow partial birth abortion.
So, look – the moderators didn’t check their statements. There’s no reason why he can’t do it. But to do it, you have to know the facts and you have to be prepared. And what I saw last night was a initially prepared Candidate with a good closing argument. But by this point the jury had already made its decision. Those who prepared him for this debate should not take part in the second debate.
Assuming, of course, that there is a second debate.
Speaking of which, if you’re Team Trump, do you want a second debate? And what about Team Harris? They were very scared on Tuesday night. And now? She Do you want a second debate?
Related: Kamala wants another debate. Is it because she feels like she lost or because she feels cocky?
Here’s the sign Kamala is worried after the debate, and what Trump has to say about it
Kamala lied shamelessly throughout the debate
Meanwhile, the most unpredictable presidential campaign in contemporary history continues.
