Washington (AP) – as Bill Pulte was nominated as a Top Housing Supervisory authorities in the country, he told the senators that his “number one mission is to strengthen and protect the apartment financing system”.
Since he started the job, he has been characterized by the political enemy of President Donald Trump. He uses real estate documents to issue allegations of mortgage fraud and promote criminal investigations, taking on an undiscovered position in order to act as a presidential executor.
This week Trump used Pulte’s allegations to relieve Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve Board, when he tries to practice more control over the traditionally independent central bank.
Pult claims that Cook described two houses as the main residence in order to obtain cheaper mortgage interest. Cook plans to fight their distance and to provide the basics for a legal dispute that could redesign a cornerstone’s institution in the American economy.
Trump said on Tuesday that Cook “had a violation and you can’t have a violation” and added that he has “some very good people” in mind to replace them.
Pente fired the president’s campaign with a Trumpian power.
“The fraud is not tolerated by President Trump’s real estate market,” he wrote on social media. “Thank you for your attention for this matter.”
Pult is aimed at Democrats, but no Republicans
Pult, 37, is a scion of the apartment industry, whose official job is director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. He monitors the mortgage buyers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who were brought into conservators almost two decades ago during the great recession.
Like other political appointments, he routinely wastes praise to his boss.
“President Trump is the biggest,” he posted on the weekend.
Pulto has raised additional allegations for mortgage fraud against Senator Adam Schiff, one of Trump’s best antagonists on Capitol Hill, and New York General Prosecutor Letitia James, who submitted complaint against Trump. These cases are pursued by Ed Martin, an official of the Ministry of Justice.
“In a world in which housing is too expensive, we do not have to subsidize apartment participations for fraudsters by receiving them better prices than they earn,” wrote Pult on social media.
Pulte has ignored a similar case with Ken Paxton, the Attorney General in Texas, who is friends with Trump and runs for the Senate in the Republican area code of his state. Paxton took out mortgages for three properties, all of which were identified as his main apartment.
He also has mortgages for two other properties that expressly prohibited him from renting the real estate, but both were repeatedly listed for rent, according to real estate lists and contributions to miniature -term rent locations.
When asked about Pult’s investigation and Trump’s role in them, the White House said that everyone who violates the law should be held accountable.
“The only retaliation of President Trump is success and historical achievements for the American people,” said Davis Ingle, spokesman for the White House.
It is unclear whether Pente uses state resources to develop the allegations he raised. Mortgear documents are generally public records, but are usually maintained at the district level in most USA, which makes it tough to check them comprehensively. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, both of whom are sponsored by the government, buy gigantic mortgage tranches from lenders who could centralize a gigantic part of this information that say real estate and legal experts.
FHFA did not respond to a detailed list of questions from the AP, including the question of whether Pulte or his helpers used state resources to carry out his research.
It’s not just mortgages
The broad sides of Pulte go beyond the mortgages. He supported Trump’s criticism of Jerome Powell, chairman of the Federal Reserve, for steep renovation work in the central bank. Trump pushes Powell to reduce interest rates to reduce the loan costs, and his allies have highlighted cost crossing in order to point out that Powell is not trustworthy or should be removed from his position.
“This type is said to be the money manager for the largest economy in the world, and it doesn’t even look as if he can operate a construction site,” said Pult, while wearing a neon security vest outside the building. “So something doesn’t smell here.”
Since returning to the White House, Trump has reached deep into the government to drive his agenda forward. He revised the federal employee at the Office for Personnel Administration, promoted ideological changes in the Smithsonian Network of Museums and released the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics when he recently did not want to report on the job figures.
The Federal Housing Finance Agency is responsible for another instrument from Trump’s mission to exercise control and take revenge against enemies.
It is a contrast to the Internal Revenue Service, in which Trump unsuccessfully discussed possibilities for using tax policy as a pressure point. For example, Trump threatened to take out Harvard’s long -standing tax -exhausted status during the fighting by saying: “It is what they deserve.”
However, there are more restrictions there that go back to the Watergate scandal under President Richard Nixon.
“It was difficult for the administration to use the invitations with which she would like to pursue her enemies,” said Vanessa Williamson, Senior Fellow at the Urban Brookings Stadu Policy Center.
She said: “The law is very clear in relation to the privacy of taxpayers and the criminal punishments are not low.”
Before the attack, Pult played online nice online
Pulte is an inheritance of a home building assets mentioned by his grandfather who also founded a construction company in Detroit in the 1950s, which has now become known as the listed National Housing Gigant as a Pulte Group.
He spent four years on the company’s board and is the owner of heating and air conditioning in the United States, which he had never served in the government before he was served by Trump to lead the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
“While many children spent their weekends at sporting events, I spent mine with my father and grandfather for homebuilding workplaces,” said Pulte in writing for his nomination hearing. “From scratch I learned every aspect of housing construction – be it cleaning areas, support in building or selling houses.”
He once tried to make a name for himself with good deeds, described himself as the “inventor of the Twitter philanthropy” and offered people in need online. At that time he worked in private equity and told Detroit Free Press that he financed his donations with some “very good liquidity events” to operate his donations.
Just six years ago, he seemed to focus on attracting Trump’s attention.
“If @Raldonaldtrump returns this, my team and I give two beautiful veterans on Twitter two beautiful cars.”
Trump replied: “Thank you, Bill, welcomed our great veterans Hello!”
Pult, the latest financial disclosure of which has a net asset of at least $ 180 million, also increased his political donations.
In the past six years, he and his wife donated over 1 million US dollars for the political efforts of Trump and his allies, including a contribution of 500,000 US dollars to a Super PAC associated with Trump, the subject of a complaint for campaign financing with the Federal Election Commission.
The Culture’s 500,000 dollar contribution was made by a company that you control with the name ML Organization LLC. While such contributions are usually permitted by companies, this also applies to some circumscribed liability companies that have a circumscribed business footprint and could cover the donor.
The FEC ultimately relieved the desk, but found in April that the Trump Super Pac is making America great again! Inc. has not properly announced that the desk was the source of the donation, said Saurav Ghosh, director of the reform of the campaign financing of the campaign campaign.
Ghosh said the donation raises sedate questions about the appointment of Pulte to the management of FHFA.
“Why is Bill Pulte in a government position?” he said. “Maybe he is qualified, maybe he is not. But he poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into a pro-trump super-pac. And I think it is clear that there is this kind of rewards for large donors in the Trump management.”
