Guess what, dear readers? We’ve made it to the finish line in state primary season. Today (Tuesday) is the final round of state primaries, with Delaware, New Hampshire and Rhode Island bringing up the rear. A few notes on these final primaries:
- In Delaware, the resignation of incumbent Democratic Governor Jim Carney has opened the field to a three-way race between Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long, New Castle County Executive Max Meyer and National Wildlife Federation President Collin O’Mara. On the Republican side, Delaware House Minority Leader Mike Ramone is considered the favorite for the primary.
- In Delaware, the race to represent the state’s only congressional district in Washington, DC, is also likely to go to Democratic Senator Sarah McBride. (Current Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester is vying for Tom Carper’s Senate seat.)
- In New Hampshire, Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig is expected to win the Democratic primary for governor and face Republican Kelly Ayotte (the favorite for the Republican primary) in November.
- In Rhode Island, incumbent Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is likely to win his primary easily. On the Republican side, Raymond McKay and Patricia Morgan face off.
In Delaware and Rhode Island, polls close at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. In New Hampshire, polls close at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time, but remain open until 8:00 p.m. in major metropolitan areas. No calls will be taken before then.
