Lousy job Biden does wonders for Republicans in Michigan for 2024

Here we are, marking another Memorial Day weekend, and once again we should take a moment to remember those who have died in service to their country. I wrote about this day in an article three years ago, reflecting aloud on how we observe this day in our country.

From my reflections on this weekend here: America is at a crossroads this Memorial Day

Hopefully, much of the country will take a moment today to think of these heroes who wore and died in the nation’s uniform and will honor their memory. While most do that and post quotes from politicians they know little about other than those nice quotes, today I’ve decided to go in a different direction.

What condition is the country in which these men and women died to preserve it?

The low answer is: in trouble.

America turns 245 years venerable on July 4, 2021, and we’ve been through a lot of trouble. From our founding, which was never as uncomplicated or protected as some history books make it out to be, through our bloody Civil War and the Vietnam era, we’ve seen tough times.

The Vietnam conflict was a particularly turbulent time and the first time that Americans had a nightly glimpse of what was happening in the world on a daily basis. Political divisions were piercing and a sitting President of the United States had to resign to avoid violent impeachment.

Yet, speedy forward to the present, and the country as a whole may be in even greater turmoil than it was in the behind schedule 60s/early 70s. Social media and the platforms that have been created and are now part of our daily lives dictate almost all news coverage and the way it is distributed.

Even though I think the country is a little worse off this Memorial Day, I still see some glimmers of hope. Not necessarily because the Democrats’ opponents are taking action, but mostly because the Democrats themselves are taking action.

At the top of this list is Joe Biden.

Warren G. Harding and Ulysses S. Grant, as well as the current equivalent of those two presidents, Jimmy Carter, are all incredibly grateful for the presidency of Joe Biden, because in just three and a half years he has snatched from their hands the mantle of the most ineffective and corrupt president of all time.

At this point, it wasn’t even close.

Biden is not only hurting his chances in November, but also the chances of everyone with a “D” after their name, and it’s glorious to watch. Democrats in the state of Michigan will start stonewalling him, if not at the debate between Trump and himself in behind schedule June, then afterward.

A typical example is HEREabout how Republicans are only a few points behind a leading, gentle Democrat who should easily win the state this fall:

The race for Michigan’s vacant U.S. Senate seat remains wide open, according to a up-to-date poll. In a hypothetical head-to-head matchup that’s within the poll’s margin of error, Democratic U.S. House frontrunner Elissa Slotkin holds a narrow lead over Republican former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers.

Slotkin, a three-term congresswoman from Holly, was at 40%, 3 percentage points ahead of Rogers, a former seven-term congresswoman from Brighton, at 37%, but that’s within the margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Another 23% of respondents were undecided.

The poll of 600 registered voters in Michigan was conducted on April 24 and 25 and commissioned by the Detroit Regional Chamber in advance of the Mackinac Policy Conference later this month, which is scheduled to host the Senate candidates’ debate on May 30.

Even more impressive (in some ways) is that the closest GOP contender, Sandy Pensler, is just under 7 points behind Slotkin:

Slotkin’s lead widened when she ran in hypothetical matchups with other Republican candidates, putting her ahead of Grosse Pointe Park businessman Sandy Pensler at 41% to 34%, with 26% of respondents still undecided.

This leads me to believe that people are more willing to vote for a Republican than a Democrat like Slotkin, who voted for Joe Biden based only on a hunch.

In a Democratic-dominated state like Michigan, this is truly astonishing.

I’ve written about how Michigan is a true blue state that can turn purple under the right conditions, as was the case with Trump’s 11,000-vote victory here in 2016. Michigan is a BLUE state, and lying about it won’t change that.

The reasons may vary, but the last conservative governor we elected here was John Engler in 1998, and the last Republican we sent to the Senate from the Great Lakes State was Spencer Abraham in 1994.

Still, Joe Biden is single-handedly helping Democratic states at least consider switching to a Democratic party. That’s a much better position than the one a Democratic state like Michigan was in four years ago in 2020.

I think it is appropriate that on this day, on this weekend, when we should be remembering and commemorating the sacrifices of those who have died in service to this country throughout the history of this country, that we take advantage of the gift of incompetence that Joe Biden is giving us.

Let us actually elect people who will reverse the stupid policies that this incompetent and corrupt government has imposed on our country for the last four years.
