Governor Patrick Morrisey appointed the former judge of the Municipal Court, Anne Charnock, the former judge at the Senate to the Senate on Tuesday after a press release.

Charnock, a Republican, will fill the seat in the 17th Senate district and represent Kanawha County. This seat was cleared by Eric Nelson last month after accepting the position of financial secretary in Morrisey’s administration.

“Anne is a lifelong republican and was a committed official in the Kanawha district,” said Morrisey. “As a former judge and experienced lawyer, she will be a great advocate of her voters.”

Charnock was a judge in Charleston in Charleston for 12 years, from 2010 and 2022, where she supervised traffic offenses and violations of the city regulation. In 2022 she lost her offer for a further re -election to the former deputy prosecutor of Kanawha County, Matt Smith. Charnock worked as an urban employee in Charleston for about five years before he was elected judge for the court.

Charnock is the lawyer of trade and is the owner of the Charnock & Charnock law firm based in Charleston. She is also a member of the Republican National Lawyers Association and, according to the press release, worked as the deputy lawyer of the Republican Party in West Virginia.

The regular legislative session 2025 begins on Wednesday, February 12th.
