Nestle said on Wednesday that artificial colors from the US foods and drinks will remove until mid -2026.

It is the latest Big Food company that makes this promise. Last week Heinz and General Mills said that they would remove artificial dyes from their US products by 2027. General Mills also plans to remove artificial dyes from the US muesli and from all foods that were served in K-12 schools in mid-2026.

The move has broad support. According to an AP-NORC survey, about two thirds of the Americans prefer the restriction or formulation of processed food to remove ingredients such as additional sugar or dyes. Both California and West Virginia have recently banned artificial dyes in food that are served in schools.

On Sunday, the Republican governor Greg Abbott from Texas signed a legislative template, according to which foods were created with artificial dyes or additives to contain a fresh safety label from 2027. The label would indicate that they contain ingredients that are “not recommended for human consumption” in Australia, Canada, the European Union or Great Britain.

The federal government also puts on its control over artificial colors. In January, days before President Donald Trump’s office, the US supervisory authorities banned the dye called Red 3 from the nation’s food supply, almost 35 years after he was excluded from cosmetics due to the potential crab risk.

In April, Trump’s health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the FDA commissioner Marty Makary said that the agency would take measures to remove synthetic dyes by the end of 2026 by relying on voluntary efforts of the food industry.

Nestle has undertaken to remove artificial dyes beforehand. At the beginning of 2015, the company said it would remove artificial flavors and colors from its products by the end of this year. But the promise didn’t last.

Nestle said on Wednesday that it has removed synthetic dyes from its products in the past ten years, and they do not contain 90% of the US portfolio. Among those who do this is Nesquik Bananen -Erzberbermilch, which is made with Red 3.

Nestle said on Wednesday that the changing nutritional needs and preferences of his US customers want to develop.

“Serve and enjoy people to serve and delight people is the heart of everything we make and every decision we make,” said Marty Thompson from Nestles Us CEO.
