As Algernon Swinburne so aptly observed, even the dullest river meanders somewhere sheltered – the sea. We might also very well observe that even the most committed liberal politicians, if they are stuck in a political mess long enough, meander somewhere where they realise how tumultuous things have become.
Nicole Shanahan, the former vice presidential candidate of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has apparently Face rubbed into the Lawfare mess long enough.
I admit that I used to roll my eyes a little when people claimed that President Trump was being “persecuted.” I looked at it through the distorted filter of the media. Well, I just finished my first cross-examination in our second New York voting access case, which involved… pic.twitter.com/7zTfi4FQ6K

How many more liberals will be roused – and I never operate this word, but it’s true – by this blatant and outrageous lawsuit against a presidential candidate? This isn’t the first time Nicole Shanahan has spoken out on this issue, either, and frankly, what the Democratic Party did when they pushed aside the candidacy of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and then nominated Kamala Harris, who didn’t get a single vote in the primaries – that was just disgraceful.
Politics was and is a grubby business, but today’s Democrats seem to want to make it dirtier than ever before.

Note that I operate the term “liberals” not “progressives.” The people I remember as liberals, like the delayed Daniel Patrick Moynihan, were pro-big government, but they weren’t crazy and, for the most part, weren’t vindictive. Ronald Reagan is said to have regularly enjoyed after-work drinks with Tip O’Neill at the White House and said they were “friends after five o’clock.”
But boy oh boy have things changed, and the election of Donald Trump in 2016 seems to have kicked the “progressive” hate and legal war machines into overdrive. From sham impeachment proceedings to trumped-up (haha) lawsuits and criminal charges, never in the history of our republic has so much effort been put into taking down a man. And let me remind you, this is a man who was a registered Democrat for most of his life. This was a man who had Bill and Hillary Clinton as guests at his wedding to Melania. This was a man the likes of Oprah drooled over on television. Donald Trump was a darling of Democrats and the left—right up until the moment he rode down the golden escalator and committed the unforgivable sin of announcing he would run for president as a Republican.
Nicole Shanahan has now got it. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also seen what the Democrats have become, as has Tulsi Gabbard, and who knows how many people who until recently considered themselves moderate Democrats.
Whatever you think of Donald Trump, one thing is clear: his very presence has ripped the mask off his face. He is not playing the game the way he should, so he must be removed.
There is a word for regimes that imprison their political opponents: autocracy.
