Given the media-provoked outrage over the past decision of Martha-Ann, wife of Chief Justice Samuel Alito, to fly the American flag (briefly upside down) over their Virginia home and the Revolutionary War-era “Appeal to Heaven” flag over their New Jersey beach house, it was only a matter of time before another arch-enemy of the radical left was drawn into the debate.
As RedState readers know, North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson is despised by the Democratic and media machines precisely because he refuses to be controlled and pigeonholed by them. He has been falsely branded a sexist, a ANTISEMITICan insurgent, a conspiracy theorist – whatever, he was accused of it.

Robinson, as we’ve discussed before, has had a meteoric rise in North Carolina politics and is now the Old North State’s Republican gubernatorial candidate for 2024. He will face Democratic candidate Josh Stein, the state’s current attorney general.
Polls at this point in the race do not show a clear advantage for both candidates. So it’s no surprise that the Raleigh News and Observer thought they could move things along in this regard by informing people that Robinson had also flown the “Appeal to Heaven” flag in April:

Of course, the usual suspects, including this MSNBC columnist, pounced on the matter and confiscated:

However, there was a massive problem, as was discovered when the current article:
The flag at the center of a U.S. Supreme Court controversy also flew outside the office of North Carolina’s lieutenant governor to commemorate the state’s involvement in the Revolutionary War.
[…]
“The ‘Appeal to Heaven’ flag was featured at our Halifax Resolves Day celebration because of its historic significance in the Revolutionary War. This flag has a rich history tied to the United States’ struggle for independence from the tyrannical British monarchy. Today, it remains a symbol of resilience, justice and the relentless pursuit of freedom,” John Wesley Waugh, Robinson’s spokesman, said in a statement to The N&O.
“So we felt it was appropriate to fly this flag as we celebrated North Carolina’s role in leading the way in declaring independence from Great Britain. In addition, I think it is important to note that this flag is still active as the official maritime flag of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” Waugh said.
“Halifax Resolves Day commemorates April 12, 1776, the day the Fourth Provincial Congress declared its intention to sever relations with Great Britain,” says the North Carolina Historic Sites website. noticed.
“The resolutions were the first official action by an entire colony demanding independence and were unanimously adopted by the 83 delegates assembled in Halifax,” it continued.
The flag “Appeal to Heaven” was also raised for several decades on the Civic Center Plaza in front of City Hall in San Francisco – until recently.
So, in summary, Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson has flown the Appeal to Heaven flag for its original purpose. Not that that should matter in the bigger picture, but apparently it does for our supposedly intellectual superiors on the left, who are no doubt heartbroken this morning to learn that they have lost yet another arrow in their quiver against Robinson.
