It’s always engaging when the investigator becomes the person being investigated. Such is the case with former Rep. Liz Cheney, who served as vice chairwoman of the hyper-politicized Jan. 6 committee and often behaved more like an Adam Schiff clone than a Wyoming Republican.
On Tuesday, the House Oversight Committee released its interim report on the J6 protests, concluding that A) the events were preventable and B) Cheney may have criminally tampered with a witness during the investigation.
It’s time for Cheney to be put in the spotlight. They concluded:
“Based on the evidence collected by this subcommittee, Liz Cheney, the former vice chair of the January 6 Select Committee, likely violated numerous federal laws, and these violations should be investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” the agency said in the statement Published report said the House Administration Oversight Subcommittee and its Chairman Barry Loudermilk.
They flatly accused her of witness tampering, a charge that can carry a lengthy prison sentence:
“Evidence uncovered by the subcommittee revealed that former Congresswoman Liz Cheney tampered with at least one witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, by secretly communicating with Hutchinson without the knowledge of Hutchinson’s attorney,” it continued. “This secret communication with a witness is inappropriate and likely violates 18 USC 1512. Such action is outside the proper functioning of the legislative process and therefore is not protected by the Speech and Debate Clause.”
Federal law criminalizes witness tampering to varying degrees and leads to a prison sentence of up to 20 years for the defendant.

The House Oversight Subcommittee made its recommendation in an interim report on former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s now-disbanded, armed J6 committee.
As we reported in November, Cheney may have had improper conversations with Hutchinson before her testimony:
Accordingly, Cheney is said to have exchanged messages with former White House adviser Cassidy Hutchinson in June 2022, when the investigation was still in full swing Just the news. It is believed she used the messaging app Signal as a back channel to discuss the case with Hutchinson.
Hutchinson, a former adviser to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, is the witness who testified that Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of his limousine from his Secret Service driver while J6 was in transit, a claim that was hotly disputed.

Cheney actually aided Hutchinson in committing perjury, the committee claimed, and they want the FBI to investigate:
Loudermilk’s report suggested that Cheney was also responsible for Hutchinson’s statement.
“The Federal Bureau of Investigation must also investigate Representative Cheney for violating 18 USC 1622, which prohibits any person from soliciting another person to commit perjury,” the report said. “Based on the evidence received by this subcommittee, Hutchinson committed perjury when she lied under oath to the Select Committee.”
The fresh congressional report on Liz Cheney’s unethical behavior in the J6 show trial also finds that Cassidy Hutchinson lied about so many things, including that I illegally obtained classified information from Mark Meadows. The report also listed some other sensational findings about the corrupt J6 committee:
- The special committee could not be preserved significant evidence from his investigation, totaling more than a terabyte of data, including missing videos of witness interviews;
- Star witness Cassidy Hutchinson made significant significant changes to her original testimony, with the support of Vice Chairman Cheney, in a guess paper in which she introduced fresh narratives, some of which contradicted the intelligence statements;
- Speaker Pelosi took some responsibility for failing to provide adequate security at the Capitol in unbroadcast footage shot as part of an HBO documentary made by her daughter; And
- Defense Department officials delayed deploying the National Guard to the Capitol despite President Donald Trump’s constant direction to protect his speech and the Capitol.
It will be engaging to see whether any consequences are drawn once power in the White House, Senate and House of Representatives shifts back into Republican hands in January. Republicans will have more than just “strongly worded letters” at their disposal in the future.
It’s time for Liz Cheney to face the music.
