Oops: Harris team reportedly regrets not choosing Shapiro as Nate Silver has more bad news for her

As we reported, the honeymoon period for Kamala Harris now appears to be over as the American people take a closer look at her and her vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz.

I wrote on Wednesday about Nate Silver’s latest forecast, a fresh local Michigan poll that shows former President Donald Trump ahead in Michigan, and the Trafalgar Group/Insider Advantage polls.

New poll in Michigan and latest forecast from Nate Silver will lead to collapse among Democrats

As I wrote on Wednesday, Silver’s numbers just improved for Trump and worsened for Harris.

As Silver noted, some of this is not very positive news for Harris from the state. He points to the poll in Michigan and also sees Pennsylvania as a problem. This is a must for the Democrats.

I found this comment amusing.

Don’t be sanguine just because she’s Biden-y. She just can’t get rid of her burden and her ragtag, sloppy campaign.

There was a wave of enthusiasm for Harris after Biden left office, but that could have happened anyway. I thought the speech at the convention was good, but passing over Shapiro is starting to look bad, and they haven’t really found a second gear after Hot Brat Summer.

Translation: They may have made a large mistake by not nominating Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, even though they absolutely have to win the state. Plus, Republicans have the advantage of having so much enthusiasm. In Minnesota, nominating Tim Walz didn’t even facilitate them – then they had to deal with all his scandals, questions about stolen valor, and lies.

Besides Silver’s opinion that they might have messed up by not selecting Shapiro, this report from journalist Josh Kraushaar was comical.

“I’ve heard a lot of rumors today that the Harris camp regrets not selecting Shapiro,” he said.

Oops. We could have told you that was probably a bad policy decision when you need Pennsylvania and he could have helped get it.

They seem to have chosen Walz because of his vibes, because they liked his attacks on JD Vance. They don’t seem to have vetted him very carefully. And of course he was more what the left wanted because he wasn’t Josh Shapiro. So the Harris team was trying to appeal to the left — some would say their anti-Semitic left. They’re also trying to appeal to people in Michigan. But Walz may not facilitate them there either. So that may have just cost them a lot of money.

Too overdue. No turning back, and now they have to deal with someone who is Howard Dean’s scream in the flesh, with all kinds of baggage they try to ignore.

But this report from Kraushaar seems typical of Harris, who doesn’t seem to maintain a clear stance on anything. And that’s the bigger problem here than the question of who her running mate is. Her choices are abysmal, she has a bad record that she can’t escape no matter how demanding she tries to change.

I think that if things continue as they are, it has already reached its peak in terms of numbers.
