POTUS elections 2024: Is New York in play?

Could Donald Trump win New York’s 28 Electoral College votes in the 2024 election? It’s unlikely, but this year the Republic has entered novel territory in many ways. And it could get even stranger. Former Republican New York Governor George Pataki believes the former president has a Shot at the Empire State.

Former Governor of New York. George Pataki argued that the Empire State was up for grabs this November, warning that Democratic voters must slowly come to terms with the fact that Biden is “totally screwing it up” as he plummets in the polls.

Important on “Fox & Friends” to explain why he believes New York could be considered a swing state this election cycle, as Democrats are reportedly worried behind the scenes that Biden does not have what it takes to win or serve a second term.

“It is [been] “It’s been a long time since anyone asked me if New York is a swing state, but I get asked that a lot this year, and I think that’s because it is,” Pataki said. “And for that to happen, you need a number of different things. First, you need Democratic voters, a million Democratic voters, looking at their party, looking at their candidates and saying, ‘We’re screwing up large time,’ and that’s a given. Then you have the chaos at the top of the Democratic ticket.”

“There’s inflation, there’s the refugee crisis in New York City and now in the suburbs, and that’s causing a lot of Democrats to say, ‘Hey, wait a minute, maybe my party has failed me and I … should try something else,'” he continued.

Consider the issues Mr. Pataki raises: illegal immigration, in particular, has cost New York City a lot of money. And there is no doubt that the Democrats, who have pulled their party’s Overton window so far to the left that they are in “here be monsters” territory, are screwing it up — and badly. Add to that an enraged, defiant man at the helm of the Democratic presidential nomination who is out to lose, and badly, and who freaks out every time someone questions his suitability.

And one more thing: If any Republican presidential candidate could win New York’s electoral votes, it would be Donald Trump. And if there’s a year he could do that, it’s 2024.

There is an opportunity here. Donald Trump has already shown that he can draw a sizeable crowd in New York, even in the Bronx. In New York, he has forced the Biden campaign to be reactive, not proactive, as he has done in other places and will almost certainly continue to do so. He is taking the fight to the Democrats on what they thought was safe and sound territory. It is never good when the enemy dictates the terms of the battle, and that is exactly what Trump and Co. are doing to the hapless Biden campaign right now. So that makes the New York effort worthwhile.

And there’s a chance – a slim chance, but better than zero – that Trump’s efforts can steal enough votes from disaffected Democrats and independents in the New York metropolitan area, along with votes from more conservative counties in the north and west of the state, to actually win the state.

The last time a Republican won New York’s electoral votes was in 1984, in Ronald Reagan’s historic 49-state landslide. But unless there’s a change on the Democratic ticket, Donald John Trump could win a landslide of his own – and if he wins New York, that’s it. It’s still unlikely – but no longer impossible.
