Atlanta (AP) – The billionaire and the former bartender.
Many democrats were in the spotlight and out of the spotlight when the party President Donald Trump and his second government are looking for effective meters. But two different numbers, Governor JB Pritzker from Illinois and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, have increased their national profiles by making messages that aroused a demoralized and broken party.
The governor, a 60-year-old legacy of the Hyatt Hotel Fortune, and the congress member, the 35-year-old with roots of the working class, both won their first elections in 2018. Both have pushed the mass resistance and accused their party not to fight anymore. Each has turned out enough to pull keen retorts from Trump -Loyalisten.
But as messengers, Pritzker and Ocasio-Cortez could not be more different. And despite some overlaps, their arguments are clear enough to raise familiar questions for Democrats: Should you face your challenges for the threat to democracy and national stability, as Pritzker did, or represent him as a corrupt billionaire that tightens an unequal economy as Ocasio-Cortez does? And about the message itself, what properties should the best messenger have?
What connects them, said a prominent democrat, is “assertiveness”.
“People want Trump and Trumpism to have passion and violence alike,” said Marc Morial, President of the National Urban League, a former mayor of New Orleans, who is intensively connected in democratic politics. On this front, Pritzker and Ocasio Cortez are “both effective national personalities- in very different ways”.
Pritzker, an establishment power player
Pritzker was born in a broad family at the bridge of Babyboomer and Generation X, which is anchored in democratic politics in democratic politics. Like Trump, he inherited great wealth, but he lambasters the president as Poser on questions of the working class.
He headed Illinois’ Human Rights Commission before running for the governor. In office he signed a minimum wage climb in Illinois and is an ally of the unions. The hotels of his family are unionized unionized unionized unionized.
When the democratic President Joe Biden left the 2024 campaign, Pritzker was hovered as a replacement. He did not take any observable steps, quickly supported Vice President Kamala Harris and acted as a de facto presenter of her nomination convent in his home state.

Since Harris’ defeat, Pritzker has behaved like a future candidate. As one of the best profiled Jewish politicians of the nation, he pushed through liberals by comparing the Trump government with the Third Reich.
“If you think that I overreact too early and the alarm sounded, the Nazis took a month, three weeks, two days, eight hours and 40 minutes to reduce a constitutional republic,” said the governor, his joint budget and his joint and his state, the state on February 19, on February 19.

AOC, a progressive party crasher
Ocasio-Cortez is a thousand-year-old progressive who acquired a degree in international relations and economics and worked as a waiter and bartender before entering politics. With the support of the progressive working family party, she pushed a top -house democrat, Joe Crowley in a prescription 2018.
Like Trump, she uses millions of social media followers. Like Trump, she is an economic populist. But it comes from the left wing of US politics and without the anti-immigration and cultural conservatism of Trump’s right wing or alliances with billionaire business and technical elites.
She recently with Senator Bernie Sanders, I -Vt., A two -time presidential candidate, with the heading “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. The tour has drawn tens of thousands of people across the country, especially Republican states, often with overflow quantities outside of many stops.
Ocasio-Cortez ‘the next political step seems to be less sheltered than that of Pritzker. She is considered the potential main challenger of Chuck Schumer, the democratic chairman of the Senate from New York, and recently got antique enough to be constitutionally entitled to the presidency under constitutional law. But she seems ready to inherit the coat of the 83-year-old Sanders movement.
She freely criticizes Trump. But it is more leaning towards broader economic and social reviews that she has made since her first house offer and that Sanders has been offered for decades.
“For years we have known that our political system is slowly but surely dominated by great money and billionaires and have seen again and again how our government and laws react more to companies and lobbyists than everyday people and voters,” she said in Folsom, California. She campaigned for “living wages … stable living space … guaranteed health care” and blew up “the agenda of the dark money to keep our wages low and to loot our public goods such as social security and medicare.”
She also played her roots: “I can tell you about the waitress who speaks to you today: Nothing is impossible.”
Little consensus over the better pitch left
Ocasio-Cortez and Pritzker are against a common opponent, Trump and not against each other. Consultants of Ocasio-Cortez and Pritzker did not answer questions.
Adam Green, co -founder of the progressive change Campaign Committee, argues that Pritzker in the tradition of President Franklin D. Roosevelt could be more attractive as a “traitor in his class”. Roosevelt, a patrician on the east coast, wrote the federal extension of the New Deal to combat the global economic crisis of the 1930s.
“How powerful would it be if a billionaire directed the charges against corrupt billionaires and corrupt billionaire companies that try to crack the constitution and to loot the American people?” Green said and added that “continued silence” should disqualify Pritzker in “billionaire problems”. “We have to speak to the mood of the system that people want to see.”
Matt Bennett, co -founder of Third Way, who typically supports the centrist democrats, countered that Pritzker could bring a “more stable” version of Trump’s argument that his wealth and success are a capital. Trump’s greatest liability, said Bennett, was “chaos”, which negatively affects people’s lives.
“People are very angry with Elon Musk, but not because he is rich,” said Bennett about the CEO of Tesla, who heads Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency. “You are mad at him because he destroys our government and does this in a destructive way.”
A relative of the governor, Rachel Pritzker, demonstrates the third way.
Ocasio-Cortez is often criticized by moderate Democrats, including Senator Elissa Slotkin in Michigan, who has also positioned himself as a pioneer in the party. Slotkin recently suggested that the word “oligarchy” did not arrive among the voters of the working class. It was an implicit complaint of the Ocasio Cortez-Sanders ” tour.
Shortly after Slotkin’s comments on the oligarchy, Ocasio-Cortez posted on X: “Many politicians on both sides of the gang feel threatened by increasing class awareness.”
Bennett said that Democrats who appear as party leaders, including the 2028 candidate, will be those who offer solutions for the frustration of voters “because their needs are not met”. It is an idea that Green insisted on it
Regardless of the direction the Democrats choose, Bennett said, Ocasio-Cortez has secured her place as a national voice.
“She is very good in what she does. She is impressive,” he said. “And everyone in the middle left that denies is just jokes.”
