When Donald Trump named former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as his pick for director of national intelligence, liberal minds predictably exploded with the usual suspects like Sen. Tammy Duckworth (R-IL), Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), Rep Jason Crow (D-CO), Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), former national security adviser John Bolton and others claimed she was a “Russian asset.”

However, on Monday, over 250 veterans released a letter expressing their full support for Gabbard, a former Democrat who was tired of her venerable playbook and became an independent in 2022. She then joined the Republican Party in October.

The veterans praised her service to the country, calling her “fearless and principled”:

The selection of President Donald Trump by Tulsi Gabbard reflects a deep recognition of her unwavering commitment to our nation and her unwavering commitment to protecting the American people. “While most Americans know Tulsi as a fearless and principled congresswoman who pushed back against entrenched political systems, we know her as a veteran – one whose worldview was forged through deployment to combat zones and a lifelong dedication to military service.” said a statement letter, “American Veterans for Tulsi Gabbard,” released Monday and obtained by Fox News Digital.

“President Donald Trump’s selection of Tulsi Gabbard reflects a deep recognition of her unwavering commitment to our nation and her unwavering commitment to protecting the American people,” said the letter from American Veterans for Tulsi Gabbard (AVTG).

The letter continues:

“Due to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Tulsi answered the call of duty, enlisted in the Army and resigned from her position as Hawaii State Representative when she volunteered to deploy with her unit to Iraq. “Rather than use her political agenda to avoid deployment, Tulsi volunteered to serve in a medical unit in Iraq and was directly confronted with the harsh realities, costs and trauma of war,” the letter continues .

“Her commitment to military service didn’t end there,” it continued, before pointing to Gabbard’s 22 years of working together “standing shoulder to shoulder with her comrades,” including while serving in the House of Representatives.

Gabbard was elected entered the House of Representatives in 2021 but did not run for re-election in 2020 after deciding to run for president as a Democrat. She has been serving as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves since 2021 after serving in the Hawaii Army National Guard for approximately 17 years.

She is expected to make her rounds on Capitol Hill to meet with members of the Senate Intelligence Committee and GOP leadership in an attempt to drum up further support.
