On Monday evening, Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) said she will not accept committee assignments in the House of Representatives and will instead devote more time to supporting the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and refuse to go to any of the weekly GOP meetings .

“I remain a registered Republican but will not sit on committees or participate in the caucus until I see Republican leadership in Congress,” she wrote on X. This unprecedented move is startling to say the least.

“I don’t have to work in circuses. I would rather spend more time helping.” [DOGE]…to save our republic as the American people have demanded,” she continued.

On Tuesday morning, she issued a press release echoing those views and adding a warning to Congress:

“With this election, the American people have sent a clear message and mandate to the Republican Party to govern – not to present talking points and submit bills. Our country is on a fiscal collision course and it will take some courage and structural change in Congress to challenge the status quo, which is not the case.

“As a serious legislator and financial professional, not a clown, I will not continue to engage in circuses. I would rather focus my energy on helping President Trump, his appointees, and DOGE fulfill their promises through reconciliation. And that’s what I’m going to do.” I work hard and do real work for the people I represent – no presentations on committees for the lobbyists, spectacles and posts on Facebook and X to raise money.

“The swamp will be back in business in four years unless the law drains it. Congress cannot fail President Trump and the American people again.”

Spartz bucked Republican leadership in the House of Representatives several times during the 118th Congress, primarily on issues of government spending and the national debt. She is currently a member of the House Judiciary Committee.

Spartz, an immigrant from Ukraine, was also criticized for this by the Lindsey Graham wing of the GOP Criticism of Volodymyr Zelenskyj:

There is widespread fear within the House GOP conference that her stance is damaging U.S.-Ukraine relations at the worst possible time — and that it is being played by forces intent on weakening the Western alliance. GOP national security hawks also worry that the MAGA wing of their party, where there is already opposition to support for Ukraine, will utilize Spartz’s comments as justification.

In statements and interviews, Spartz pushed for greater control of U.S. arms sales to Ukraine – an issue that has drawn bipartisan attention.

But she also accused Zelensky of “playing politics” and not “understanding” the gravity of the conflict. And she has launched a campaign against his chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, accusing the president’s top adviser of being in Russia’s pocket.

What she will do is unclear as this DOGE committee is a novel committee led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. Ron Paul has also stated in the past that he is willing to support DOGE in seeking budget cuts for the federal government.
