Senate Republicans have publicly reprimanded Judge Juan Merchan: Don’t put Donald Trump in jail.
Senate Republicans warn New York judges Juan Merchan not to sentence former President Trump to prison or house arrest or take any other action that could prevent the presumptive Republican nominee from campaigning before the November election.
It could take months for Trump to appeal his conviction on 34 counts related to falsifying business documents, and legal experts do not expect the conservative-leaning U.S. Supreme Court to intervene to facilitate him.
This means that Trump’s fate is largely in the hands of Merchan, who can decide on sentences ranging from prison and house arrest to probation and community service.
Normally, a white collar crime of this nature without a prior criminal record would result in a suspended sentence or some other punishment other than prison, but this case was anything but normal.

Several senators have spoken out; representative of their statements is one of Senator John Cornyn (R-TX):
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said it would be “another abuse of power” to jail Trump or sentence him to house arrest.
“I am very concerned about the way the courts are being used as a weapon,” he said. “There used to be some institutions in America that were considered taboo for overt partisan politics, namely the FBI, the Justice Department and the courts. But unfortunately that has changed, and not for the better.”
At least one legal expert says Trump will not face a prison sentence. However, there is one caveat:
An analysis by Norm Eisen, a senior fellow for governance studies at the Brookings Institution, found that only one in 10 first-degree fraud cases in New York resulted in a prison sentence. His findings were first reported in the New York Times.
However, some New York legal experts point out that Judge Merchan has a reputation for being tough on white-collar criminals.
Judge Merchan is considered a tough criminal – especially when it comes to Republicans and their last name is Trump.
The convictions do not appear to have much impact on Trump’s fundraising, except perhaps to boost it. The Trump campaign’s fundraising in May was almost twice as much as in Aprilof which 53 million dollars in Days immediately after conviction.
In addition, a Morning Consult poll conducted on Monday shows that Donald Trump still has a narrow (1 percent) lead over Joe Biden in the general election. Trump still has leads in all essential swing statesalthough in some cases only by a hair’s breadth.
It will be an engaging summer.
