Washington (AP)-Das Department of Health and Human Services will cancel contracts and develop the financing of some vaccines for combating respiratory viruses such as covid-19 and flu.
In a statement on Tuesday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Kennedy’s decision to terminate the projects is the latest in a number of decisions that have brought the long -standing vaccine critic into full effect on the state’s Ministry of Health. Kennedy has withdrawn recommendations for the COVID-19 shots, fired the panel, which gives up vaccine recommendations, and refused to offer forceful confirmation of vaccinations if a measles eruption deteriorated.
The health secretary criticized MRNA vaccines in a video in his social media accounts and explained the decision to terminate projects that are led by the leading pharmaceutical companies in the country, including Pfizer and Moderna, that offer protection against viruses such as flu, covid-19 and H5N1.
“In order to replace the concerned MRNA programs, we prioritize the development of safer, wider vaccine strategies such as all-virus vaccines and new platforms that do not collapse when viruses are mutated,” said Kennedy in the video.
Experts in infectious diseases say that the MRNA technology used in vaccines is unthreatening and attribute their development during the first Trump debt with the slowdown of the Coronavirus pandemic from 2020. They warned future pandemics more challenging without stopping mRNA.
“I don’t think I saw a more dangerous decision in public health in my 50 years,” said Mike Osterholm, expert at the University of Minnesota for infectious diseases and pandemic preparations.
He found that MRNA technology offers potential advantages of quick production that, in the event of a up-to-date pandemic, is of crucial importance that requires a up-to-date vaccine.
The shelves of the MRNA projects are short-sighted as concerns about a bird flu pandemic that is developing, said Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert at the children’s hospital in Philadelphia.
“It has certainly saved millions of life,” said Offit about the existing MRNA vaccines.
Scientists utilize mRNA for more than just infectious disease vaccines, with researchers around the world examining their utilize in cancer immune therapies. In the White House at the beginning of this year, the billionaire Tech entrepreneur Larry Ellison MRNA praised his potential for the treatment of cancer.
Traditionally vaccines needed virus pieces, often in chicken eggs or huge cell baths and then cleaned this material. The mRNA approach begins with a section of genetic code that contains instructions for the production of proteins. Scientists choose the protein to aim and inject injected that blueprint and the body are just enough to trigger immune protection and create their own vaccine dose.
In a statement on Tuesday, HHS said: “Other uses of MRNA technology within the department are not influenced by this announcement.”
MRNA technology is used in approved Covid 19 and RSV shots, but has not yet been approved for flu vaccination. Moderna, which examined a combination of Covid-19 and Flipp-MRNA shot, assumed that MRNA could accelerate the production of flu vaccinations compared to conventional vaccines.
The abandoned MRNA projects signal a “shift in the priorities of vaccine development,” said the health department in its explanation and added that it “invests in better solutions”.
“Let me be absolutely clear, HHS supports safe and effective vaccines for every American who wants you,” said Kennedy in the explanation.
Kennedy speaks hours later on Tuesday at a press conference in Anchorage, Alaska, together with the two Republican US senators of the state, and said that work was an alternative.
He said that a “universal vaccine” that imitates “natural immunity” was the focus of the government.
“It could be effective – we believe that it will be effective – not only against coronaviruses, but also flu,” he said.
