Work to maintain election integrity will continue through the weekend after Election Day, including in the state of Arizona, where ballots are still being processed at that time.

As I’ve written previously, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a modern lawsuit with the Arizona Supreme Court on Saturday seeking to extend the voting process to the current deadline of 5:00 p.m. MST on Sunday.

The Republican-majority state Senate responded immediately with Senate President Warren Petersen issuing a statement

On Saturday, Sasha Hupka, the Arizona Republic’s election reporter wrote The lawsuit “asks the Arizona Supreme Court to consider extending the five-day voting deadline,” she added.

Here’s Petersen’s statement opposing the left’s attempt to drag things out in the Copper State – and offering hope for meaningful change in the way AZ conducts elections through legislation next session .

It is said:

The Left is suing to extend the deadline for deciding on the election. I just authorized the Arizona Senate to step in and defend existing law so we can decide the outcome as quickly as possible. It’s already taken too much time! And in the next session the bills will be introduced again to receive election results in the evening.

Now the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Arizona Republican Party have filed a petition with the state Supreme Court to stop the move. Harmeet Dhillon, who leads Arizona’s election integrity legal team during the 2024 election, shared the announcement on her X account:

It is said:

We just filed our brief with the Arizona Supreme Court opposing the ACLU’s efforts to extend voting today past the statutory 5:00 p.m. deadline. Now we wait for the Supreme Court’s decision…

GOP Chairman Michael Whatley said in a statement sent to X after news of the filing:

The RNC has worked aggressively with the @AZGOP and our Republican candidates throughout the entire process of processing and counting all outstanding ballots across Arizona. We will continue our commitment until every ballot is counted. Thank you to @pnjaban for leading our legal team in this crucial situation.

He concluded with “Protect the vote!” Let us pray that Republican efforts here will be successful in this regard.

As this is a developing story, RedState will provide updates as they become available.
