St. Petersburg, Florida (AP) – The long -time academic Santa on Santa Ono was rejected on Tuesday for the Presidency of the University of Florida from the State University System System Board, since the political conservatives are criticized for its earlier support for diversity, justice and inclusion programs and other initiatives that they see as an unacceptable liberal ideology.

The Governors Board of the Florida, which monitors the universities of the state, voted 10: 6 against Ono, who was most recently president of the University of Michigan. The Board of Trustees of the University of Florida unanimously chose in May to approve Ono as 14th president of the school, and it is unprecedented for the governors to reverse such an action.

Now the search begins everywhere.

The proposed ono contract included a number of ideological requirements, e.g. He should work together with governor Ron Desantis’ office for government efficiency – similar to the office created by President Donald Trump – and appoint other university officials and deans who “are firmly in line with Florida’s approach”.

Several prominent conservatives asked questions about ONO before coordination on pro-Palestinian protests, climate change, efforts in climate change, gender-specific ideology and DEI programs at the University of Michigan and his previous academic positions.

These actions, the Republican US Senator Rick Scott from Florida, said on the X-social platform X, “He was ready to appease and prioritize far-left activists to ensure that the students are protected and receive high-quality training.” Others who raised objections are Donald Trump Jr. and Florida GOP US representatives. Byron Donalds, Greg Steube and Jimmy Patronis. Donalds is a Republican candidate for the governor.

Ono wrote in Inside Higher Ed and said that he initially supported the initiatives because they were aimed at “equal opportunities and fairness for every student”.

“But over time, I saw how something else became – more about ideology, division and bureaucracy, not about the success of the students,” wrote ono and added that he finally confined the DEI offices to Michigan. “I believe in Florida’s vision for university education.”

Desantis, a Republican who has promoted reforms in university formation to remove what he calls “Woke” guidelines like Dei, did not take a public status on ONO at a recent press conference that some of his statements made the governor “fright”.

Ono, on Tuesday – in particular by the former Republican speakers of the state of the state spokesman Paul Renner and Jose Oliva, ono was issued with similar pointed questions that the leading board member Charles Lydecker obvious.

“We have never used this as a forum to ask him. This is not a dish. This process does not seem to be open to me,” said Lydecker.

However, Oliva asked how he can squares the many earlier statements of Onos about cultural problems with his cultural problems with his more conservative attitude after looking for the job in Florida.

“Now we are told that they are now leaving an entire ideological architecture,” said Oliva. “We ask someone to guide our flagship university. I don’t understand how it becomes unfair.”

Steube, who wrote about X, praised the board for his decision.

“Great news for my Alma Mater and the state of Florida! The Governor Council heard loudly and clearly: Santa Ono was the wrong choice for UF,” said the congress member.

Ono was supposed to replace Kent Fuchs, who became the short-lived intervention president of the school last summer after ex-US senator Ben Sasse resigned. Sasse left the US Senate, where he had Nebraska to become President of the University in 2023.

Sasse announced in July that he left the job after epilepsy was diagnosed in his wife.

Later reports appeared that Sasse gave six former employees and two former Republican official with salaries, exceeded comparable positions and spent over $ 1.3 million for private catering for wasteful dinner, football rear flaps and extravagant social functions.

Ono is also the former president of the University of British Columbia and the University of Cincinnati.
