The Senate is to complete its nominations in August, since the Republicans want to change the rules for limiting the time span for individual candidates who can confirm the selection of President Trump faster due to a democratic blockade.
The majority leader of the Senate, John Thune (Rs.d.) and the Senate President Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.), had dealt with offers on Friday evening and Saturday. However, they could not seal the business for a package that would have made it possible for about two dozen candidates to approve the one-month August break that the legislators were concerned.
In return for the approval of the group of non -controversial candidates, Schumer had billions of dollars of restored funds for foreign assist and the national health institutes.
However, Trump made it clear that he would not throw his weight behind this agreement.
“Senator Cryin ‘Chuck Schumer calls for more than one billion dollars to approve a small number of our highly qualified candidates who should now help to lead our country. This requirement is outrageous and unprecedented and dignity of the Republican party is embarrassing if it has been accepted” Truth social.
“It is a political blackmail according to every other name,” continued Trump. “Say Schumer, who from his own party, radical lunatics, go to hell, do not accept the offer, go home and voters, which bad people the Democrats are and what kind of republicans are for our country.
Trump told the legislators: “Have a great break and make America great again !!!”
Instead, the Republicans of the Senate will become “nuclear” at candidates as soon as they reappear in September by changing the rules with 51 votes.
This would probably assist to lift the time between cloture and confirmation voices to a fraction of the current time. The Democrats force two hours for many of the nominees of the lower level and the judicial decisions that the Senate currently receives.
As a last campaign before the break, the Senate processed seven additional candidates, including the long -standing Fox News Personality Jeanine Pirro, to become US lawyer for the District of Columbia and the former Rep. Marc Molinaro (Rn.Y.) to lead the Federal Transit Administration.
Schumer welcomed the result as a victory for the Democrats when the Republicans did not put him under pressure to confirm a larger group of candidates through unanimous approval or voice.
“Donald Trump got away. Again it shows us. He bullied us, he ended us, he called us names and went home with nothing,” said Schumer at a press conference on Saturday evening.
“The art of the deal”, Schumer wrote in a social media repost by Trump’s truth, as he beat “Cryin ‘Chuck Schumer” because he asked for funding for quick confirmations.
Schumer said that the “Republican Goat-IT-Allon strategy was devastating for American families: higher prices for everything, from health care and food to electrices to essential goods. These were not what the voters had in mind when Republicans handed over very narrow majorities in the congress and a paper victory.”
Schumer said it was a “big mistake” for the Republicans to change the rules of the Senate unilaterally in order to accelerate the confirmation of more than 100 blocked nominees, many of which occupy positions at the lower level.
“Because if you strive for it alone, she screwed up,” argued Schumer. “We should work together [toward] Legislation to do things for the American people. This is the way to go and not to change the rules. Because if you change the rules, just say that we decide what is good for the American people. “
