A lot can be accomplished by simply noting that Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) is wrong, because he is wrong so often about so many things that it is demanding to boil it down to just one issue. But we will still try to limit this discussion of how wrong Senator Murphy is to some of his recent comments on the Supreme Court, the bump stock decision, and the Second Amendment.
Ok, that wasn’t so close, but let’s go deeper.
Recent Weapon-related judgments Murphy told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” that the Supreme Court’s decision was a sign that they were willing to “permanently take away Congress’s ability to do simple things like require people to have background checks or make progress in removing dangerous weapons like AR-15s from the streets.”
Nothing the Supreme Court does is wrong; it interprets “shall not be infringed” the way the Founding Fathers intended. But this is nothing modern; Senator Murphy is wrong on the bump stock issue too. Moreover, it would be fascinating if a real journalist asked him, “Why the AR-15? Why is it more dangerous than, say, a Winchester 100?” He would be unable to answer, caught in the same trap that so many politicians fall into – speaking candidly about something he knows nothing about.
“This is a Republican administration that banned bump stocks. At the time, Republicans in the Senate and House supported the ban,” the Connecticut Democrat said Sunday. “But now that they have a Supreme Court that seems ready to overturn the entire Second Amendment and take away the ability of Congress or the executive branch to keep our communities safe, they are once again lining up behind the gun industry.”
Yes, and this Republican administration was wrong. Republicans in the Senate and House were wrong. The Supreme Court is right, and the decision has nothing to do with the Second Amendment; the bump stock decision was made because a federal agency was essentially acting on its own and going way beyond the limits of its congressional authority. It had nothing to do with the Second Amendment (although it was a practical victory for Second Amendment supporters).
But wait! There’s more!
“We still have a lot of work to do to ensure that something like Sandy Hook never happens again and that every child has a chance to graduate,” he said. “But we have reason to believe that this country is about to turn the corner and change our laws in ways that will make our children and our families safer.”
None of the legislation Murphy is pushing would make children or families anywhere safer. Even if he got everything he wanted—which he won’t—he would arguably put Americans’ safety at risk, as the utilize of privately owned firearms is somewhere between 500,000 and 2.8 million times per year To hold Crime. Chris Murphy is wrong on this and countless other issues, and more importantly, he doesn’t care about facts, figures, numbers, or even reality; he is loudly and consistently wrong, and that seems to suit him just fine.

But that’s not all – CNN was also wrong.
Bump stocks allow a shooter to convert a semi-automatic rifle into a weapon that can fire hundreds of rounds per minute.
No. That’s wrong. Bump stocks don’t change anything. The function of a rifle with a bump stock attached doesn’t change; the rifle still fires one shot per trigger pull. And you can easily perform the same action with a rubber band or belt loop.
Chris Murphy is living proof that the claim that “a million monkeys on a million typewriters in a million years” produced the works of Shakespeare is wrong. With how much the guy talks and how many topics he explains, you’d think he’d get something right just once, even if it were only by accident. But his track record is unbroken – on this and so many other issues.
