CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Early voting turnout continues to be high in West Virginia.

Among those who voted Thursday were West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and her husband Charles Capito.

The senator says large national issues like the economy and immigration are fueling the gigantic early voter turnout this year.

“Well, in the national campaign, of course we have a Senate race here that is extremely important,” said Senator Capito. “I think it’s the economy. We’ve seen inflation, the cost of groceries, gas, rent, electricity, all of these things that are almost unbearable for American families.”

Although Capito is not running in the elections this year, he is running for political chairman, the fourth-highest-ranking Republican in the Senate. And if Republicans take control of the Senate, she will chair the Environment and Public Works Committee, which has influence on several energy policies.
