Recent polls published on Tuesday by The Counteroffensive/Kyiv International Institute of Sociology show that Ukrainians support President Joe Biden by a factor of seven compared to former President Donald Trump. 46.7 percent of respondents said they supported Biden, compared to 6.5 percent for Trump.

Another 17.6 percent said “neither candidate is good,” 6.7 percent said “both candidates are fine,” and 20.2 percent said they didn’t know.

The question informed respondents that Biden and Trump are “campaigning for the office of the next president of the United States” and asked them to select the candidate they thought would better support Ukraine’s war effort if elected.

The results are neither surprising nor unexpected, as Biden and Trump have very different views on the war in Ukraine and the means to end it. Joe Biden and his administration, together with Congress, have at least at least $75 billion in aid and military equipment to Ukraine since the Russian invasion. Trump and a growing number of Republicans take a different stance. The former president has repeatedly said he would try to broker a cessation of hostilities as part of a negotiated peace. But both Russian and Ukrainian leaders have expressed doubts or a lack of desire to do so.

Trump has [also] advocated the philosophy that US aid must come at a price. She criticized some NATO members for failing to meet their defense spending targets and attacked continued US military aid to Ukraine.

Trump has also declared that if elected, he will end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours – a View refuted by Russia’s UN ambassador at a press conference on Monday. Asked about Trump’s claim, the ambassador said: “The Ukraine crisis cannot be solved in one day.”

Biden and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj signed a long-term unilateral security agreement last month This would virtually guarantee continued US aid and military support to Ukraine.

The president explained the agreement, noting in particular that it does not include U.S. ground troops, rejecting some calls from Europe that the next step in supporting Ukraine should be the deployment of foreign troops.

Biden said the US was committed to continuing to provide military and economic assistance to the war-torn country.

“Not by deploying American troops into the fight [in] “We must support Ukraine, but by supplying weapons and ammunition, expanding intelligence sharing, continuing to train brave Ukrainian soldiers at bases in Europe and the United States, improving interoperability between our forces in line with NATO standards, and investing in Ukraine’s defense industry so that it can, over time, supply itself with weapons,” Biden said.

In relation to The counter-offensiveThe survey clearly shows how Ukrainians feel about the possibility of a second Trump presidency and what impact this would have on the situation in Ukraine.

With Panic is spreading about a possible second term for Trump – not to mention his Calls to hold military tribunals for his enemies – we looked at the impact the American elections are likely to have on the war in Ukraine.

The counter-offensiveThe team was up at 3am to watch and report on the debates. In the middle of the exchange, Myroslava turned to me and said, referring to my dual citizenship: “Well, at least you’re Canadian too!”

Given the recent events surrounding Biden’s status following last Thursday’s presidential debate, it is unclear to what extent his performance influenced the poll’s results. What is clear, however, is that the Ukrainian people, especially President Zelensky, love American money and will do whatever is in their power and needs to be done to keep the money flowing.
