Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is warning Republicans not to underestimate Vice President Kamala Harris, the likely Democratic presidential nominee. Most Democratic politicians have thrown their weight behind her, and in the first 24 hours of Harris’ presidential bid, donors have raised $81 million.
Some believe Harris will be an easier opponent for Trump-Vance, while others believe Biden was the easier opponent. Cruz, who sat with Harris in the US Senate, had a warning for the GOP in his podcast “The Verdict”. He said:
I’m afraid Republicans greatly underestimate Kamala Harris. They don’t think much of her. They don’t think she’s particularly intelligent. When you or I mention Kamala Harris’ name in Republican circles, people laugh. It’s an instant punch line. I think people underestimate the billions of dollars that the free media of the entire corrupt media convoluted consumes, and portray her as a cross between Mother Teresa, Oprah and Gandhi.
Cruz reiterated that he believes Trump will win in November, but that the outcome will not be as one-sided as some predict:
I still believe Trump will win in November. But it’s not a sure thing. It’s not a given. And what we’re facing is the chaos that makes you nervous as a Democrat, and that much chaos 100 days before the election is scary. But you know what? It’s even scarier going into an election that you’re almost certain to lose, and that was the case with Biden.
Republican voters must not rest on their laurels. The polls show Trump will win in November whether he faces Harris or one of the other Democratic options in circulation, but polls don’t vote, people do. Harris and the candidates on the lower ballots will be defeated by registering more voters to vote for Trump-Vance and by reminding everyone they know to vote in droves, while simultaneously drawing attention to the failed policies of the Biden-Harris administration.
Polls on Harris will make Democrats tear their hair out

Cruz went on to say he was concerned that people at the RNC had been “overconfident.” He said now was not the time for celebrations; they would come after Election Day.
I was very worried at the convention. … I fear that people were too confident at the convention. There was a celebratory mood. It was: “We won. We are on our way to victory. This is a landslide victory. Trump is coming back. We have a huge Republican majority.”
Look, there is a time to celebrate. Celebrate after Election Day, celebrate after we win. Now is not the time to celebrate. Now is the time for strenuous work. Now is the time to roll up your sleeves and win.
From her failures as a “border czar” to her voting record being more left-wing than Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), these are all points that will be highlighted as election season approaches. The base is electrified, but what matters is how long that hype actually lasts. We know Trump’s base will vote for him in November no matter what.

The key is to convince voters in the suburbs and Rust Belt states to vote for their candidate and to enumerate the reasons why. If those voters are open-minded, the case for voting for Trump is much more compelling than for voting for Harris.
