Baton Rouge, La. (AP) – Louisiana’s senator, Senator Blake Miguez, officially started on Tuesday to cede the Republican of the Republican US Senator Bill Cassidy in 2026.
Miguez is the youngest GOP challenger of Cassidy, who was punished by his party for one of seven GOP senators who voted against President Donald Trump during his office.
“False politicians like Bill Cassidy can’t shoot,” says the 43 -year -old Miguez in a video on social media to announce his campaign.
In the video, Miguez, a Champion competition, shows its skills, its skills – with various firearms and literally aim to swivel words such as “Marxism”, “food dyes” and “crime”.
Miguez served in the State House for more than eight years and was elected to the Senate in 2023. As a convinced lawyer for the second change, Miguez has weapon invoices, including a measure that enables the ages of 18 years to wear hidden hand tissues without permission. Last year he also wrote laws based on the enforcement of immigration authorities of federal processes.
In the Statehouse, Miguez showed a confrontational approach to Bill debates – a tactic that was obvious in his announcement of the campaign.
“I run because the American dream is worth fighting for it – and DC -Phonies forget that. Bill Cassidy revealed our state, our president and our principles,” wrote Miguez on X.
Cassidy, who is in his second term, is reliably red Louisiana for re -election, where the residents of Trump mostly supported Trump in the last three presidential election.
While the 67 -year -old Cassidy won his last re -election, he had been to condemn Trump about the uprising in the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Cassid’s recent actions indicate that he is working on improving relationships with Trump -Loyalists. He emphasized his commitment to work with the president to drive his agenda forward and supported many of Trump’s cabinet dates.
Especially in February, Cassidy joined the Republicans of the Senate Finance Committee in February to advance the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services.
Cassidy currently has a significant donation advantage with more than 7.4 million US dollars on his campaign account at the end of the first quarter. But in some eyes, Cassidy’s past actions make him vulnerable.
In addition to Miguez, the treasurer of Louisiana John Fleming, who served in Trump’s first administration, has announced that he will run for the Senate seat. The 73-year-old also accelerated Cassidy.
The Republican US representative Julia Letlow is also said to be considering running against Cassidy.
A huge change in the upcoming elections are the recent closed primaries of Louisiana.
Until the recent system was adopted this year, congress candidates of all parties who were looking for the same office were on the same ballot regardless of party affiliation. In the unique “Jungle Primary” of the state, voters were able to choose a candidate, even if they do not match the registered voter party. If a candidate earned more than 50% of the total votes, he would win the office immediately. If nobody reached the threshold, the two upper finisher would face each other in a drain.
As part of the recent primary system, only voters who are registered Republicans can take part in the GOP Senate. The effect is seen as a potential challenge for Cassidy who had benefited from the less partisan nature of the antique system.
The election will take place on November 3, 2026.
