Washington (Nexstar) – The legislators at the Capitol Hill work on a legislative template to make birth free of charge for those with private insurance.
“A baby shouldn’t a bankruptcy,” said Rep. Josh Harder (R-Calif.).
This is the idea that requires a legislative template for private health insurance companies that completely cover the costs for birth. California Democratic Congressman Josh Harder is one of the co-sponsors and a father.
“I have a threesome and one -year -old. I have the feeling that we were only in the hospital yesterday, and so there is so much going on at that time,” said Harder. “The last thing you need is a whole page full of medical editions that will continue to bring you into red.”
The harder and California Republican Congressman Young Kim work together to pass the “supportive healthy mothers and babies act”.
“I can see the joy and happiness that he is a new father. I can see that. He is like my son,” said Rep. Kim.
Kim is a mother of four years and a grandmother.
“And my children also have the challenges of being pregnant, giving birth to be a preliminary, postpartum care, it really hit a chord,” said Kim (R-Calif).
Legislation prevents private health insurance in the case of provision, ultrasound, delivery and one year of postpartum services impose a cost share in the imposition of the cost control.
“It will be absolutely free for the mother and of course the whole family during this process. I think it sounds like Commonsense,” said Harder.
The average birth costs for mothers in employer insurance in a huge group is around $ 3,000, and according to the health policy organization KFF, it is more than $ 5,000 for around 17% of mothers.
Kim says the costs should not be a barrier for the establishment of a family.
“This is such a non -partisan topic. It is not a political issue,” said Kim.
A similar draft law was introduced in the Senate.
Kim says the next step is to get more colleagues to register.
