Geneva (AP) –
The head of the UN -AIDS agency said on Monday that the sudden loss of American money was “devastating” to stop HIV and to cost many lives of the most endangered people in the world. But she also suggested an “amazing offer” for US President Donald Trump, from whom she said she could lead to “End of the AIDS”.
During a news information in Geneva, the Executive Director of the UNAIDS managing director Winnie Byanyima said that the U.S. company Gilead would produce its “magical” Lenacapavir around the world for millions of people.
Lenacapavir, sold as Sunlenca, was shown by twice annual injections in order to completely prevent HIV infection in women and to work almost as well in men.
“President Trump likes business,” said Janyimasaid that it was President George W. Bush, who started to pay for the widespread introduction of HIV drugs more than two decades ago.
“It could be President Trump, another Republican President who heads the prevention revolution towards the end of AIDS,” said von Janyima.
In addition, she added that the business would not only be due to Gilead profits and would create jobs for Americans, but would also save millions of lives in poorer countries.
Anyima said that American money was about 35% of the UNAID core budget last year, but it was unclear whether this could be restored for the next year. she said
Anyima said it was unlikely that other donors could fill this vacuum, and added that the agency’s European donors had announced that they would reduce their support in order to redirect their funds to defense and other priorities.
Anyima said that there could be more than 6.3 million additional deaths in the next four years and another 2,000 people could be infected per day if the support of the HIV efforts could not give more than 6.3 million deaths.
She admitted that there were some valid reviews of how HIV facilitate was delivered, and it was “called the opportunity to rethink and develop and develop more efficient opportunities to support life-saving support”.
Anyima also said that African countries tried to become more self -sufficient, and even some of the poorest nations now tried to “stretch very weak, fragile health systems to absorb people with HIV”.
