Washington (Nexstar) – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a comprehensive role of the most crucial environmental regulations that triggered a sturdy resistance from environmental representatives and civil servants in public health.
The fresh changes solve the restrictions on the pollution from coal -fired power plants, weaken the vehicle standard standards and lead to a significant shift in federal climate policy. The EPA administrator Lee Zeldin praised the decision and called her a step towards economic growth.
“Today the green ends the new fraud when the EPA contributes to redeeming the golden age of American success,” said Zeldin.
Followers of the rollback, including the Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito, believe that changes will strengthen companies and at the same time keep environmental protection.
“We will be able to achieve the core problems of clean water and air,” said Capito.
However, environmental groups and climate scientists warn that the loosening of these regulations could have grave consequences for public health. Joe Bonfiglio, Managing Director of the Environmental Defense Fund, emphasized the risks, especially for endangered population groups.
“For the longest time in this country, we switched to a future that would be a little cleaner,” said Bonfiglio. “Think of the child you know that you have asthma or older parents that you may have problems with having breathing problems.”
Moore Capito rejected the claims that the rollbacks would lead to increased pollution and health risks.
“I reject the premise that we will make water dirty and air and people sick,” she said.
It is expected that environmental organizations and several state governments question the fresh regulations in court and provide the prerequisites for a legal struggle for the future of US environmental policy.
