Charleston, W.Va. (Wowk) – The federal government is partially closed after the congress has passed the financing laws by the end of the 2025 financial year. Important disagreements revolve around extensions for the ACA (Affordable Care Act) increases the premium tax credits.
The “Enhanced” premium tax credits of the ACA, which were first introduced during the Covid 19 pandemic, are now to expire on December 31.
According to the West Virginia Center for household and politics, around 24.2 million people in West Virginia have voted out via ACA marketplaces via ACA marketplaces for 2025. In West Virginia, almost 70,000 people rely on these subsidies.
Ellen Allen, Managing Director of West Virginians for affordable health care, demands that the subsidies are permanently extended. She warns that many West virginians could be exposed to more high-priced premiums when they run.
“Why did every legislator at the level of the congress we sent to Washington have made a political decision that has the devastating effect on the daily West Virginians and our economy?” Said everyone.
In Washington, the Republicans of the Senate have promoted a short-term financing law that did not contain any extension of the ACA-further tax credits.
The Democrats of the Senate blocked this legislation and said that the extension had to be admitted in every financing contract.
Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Rw.Va., said the programs were expanded too far.
“The programs that have fallen during Covid. Democrats have made money, it took the entire level of income so that more people are in this program,” said Capito. “We have to contain it again, but the government has to be open.”
The time of a possible reopening remains uncertain from now on.
