Mingo County, WV (Wowk) – In smaller communities across West Virginia, it only takes a few votes to decide the next officials in district offices. A former democratic candidate of the Mingo County district would like to make positive progress through legislation by rebuilding the party in Mingo County.
“I saw how the drug problem worsened,” said Johnny Nick Hager, former democratic candidate of the Mingo County Commission. “I saw how our streets worsened. Our education system is worsened.”
Johnny Nick Hager ran for the district commissioner in 2020 and was a relatively adolescent candidate for Mingo County, who still calls changes today. He said he wanted to make progress in the community while he had rebuilt the Democratic Party.
“Will be the changes overnight, no,” said Hager. “It will take a while to get us out of the fear in which we are, but I really thought that I could have a positive influence.”
Hager is a graduate of the Tug Valley High School, who was born and grew up in Mingo County. He ran on the repair of streets, attracted jobs, eliminated garbage that influence the wildlife and expand the Internet and mobile phone cover. In the end, he lost the race against the current district commissioner Diann Hannah, who switched to the Republican party after previously as a democrat.
Both said they were concerned and are busy working on making Mingo County a place where people want to be.
“We all want better for our community,” said Hager. “We all want our children to grow up and go to school and get an apprenticeship and marry.
Hannah and Hager share similar ideas for the district, regardless of their party affiliation. Both said they emphasize that they work together as a community and not remain split.
“Don’t just run on the coat tails of Trump, bidges, Harris or Vance,” said Hager. “I hope you will actually sit down and make your own agenda that does not affect a state that is 3,000 miles away, but concerns us. As many people come up and down and run at a border wall during the election campaign season. What does a border wall do for Mingo County?”
