Charleston, WV (Wowk) – the former delegate of West Virginia, Doug Skaff Jr., died, according to the Kanawha County Commission, at a car accident at the age of 48.
A release of the West Virginia State Police said that a wreck with two vehicles on the I-79 towards the south near Mile Marker 101 was reported at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The respondents observed that a car ended a tractor trailer in the back when the truck drove uphill. Skaff was confirmed as a driver of the car and died on site.
The crash is still being examined.
Governor Patrick Morrisey Posted on X give his condolences.
“I am broken with the death of our friend Doug Skaff. Doug was a long -time state legislator, the minority manager of the West Virginia house of the delegates, and almight in the Charleston community.
Congressman Riley Moore also gave his own explanation.
“Tonight Mina and I mourned with the people of West Virginia to mourn the loss of a true mountaineer. Doug Skaff, my good friend, was a West Virginian through and through. From his time as President of the Student Union at West Virginia University until his time in the West Virginia of Delegates, Doug,” said Moore.
“When we both had children at Sacred Heart, Doug and I trained the football team of our children together, and I was able to see first -hand how much he loved his youthful. My family appreciates memories of these football games, and Doug is a huge part of each of them. Our hearts break for the stunning family that he leaves.

Ben Salango, President of the Kanawha County Commission, said: “I have known Doug for almost 25 years and I am absolutely destroyed. Tera and I pray for his wonderful family and friends.”
Commissioner Lance Wheeler added: “In this incredibly difficult time, my heart is going to the skraffe family. Doug Skaff was more than just a chosen civil servant. He was a real champion for his community, a first husband and a friend. My family and I extend our deepest condolences and prayer to his members.”
“I am destroyed and broke with a broken heart for his family,” said Commissioner Natalie Tennant. “Our district and our state have lost a real public servant who loved his family, his friends and church. Doug always looked for opportunities to raise the community, including the recently reviving the historical Fazi family family restaurants. Doug’s vision and passion will be missing.”
The courthouse of the Kanawha district plans to reduce all flags in the district in honor of Skaff on half-represented flags. Amy Goodwin, Mayor of Charleston, plans to do the same for city flags.
“I am shocked and with a broken heart to find out about the death of the former WV -Delegated -Doug Skaff,” said Goodwin in a publication. “He was an outstanding civil servant and businessman, but above all he was a wonderful husband, father and son. My prayers are in this difficult time with his wife, her three beautiful boys and his whole family. The city of Charleston, Kanawha County and the state of West Virginia have lost a real champion for their people.”
The chairman of the West Virginia Democratic Party, Mike Pushkin, shared his own condolences on behalf of the WVDP.
“Doug Skaff was more than just a colleague; he was a friend of us for many, even after leaving the legislator,” said Puschkin. “His humor was contagious, and his commitment to his family, especially his love for his children, was obvious in everything. Doug was deeply committed to the community – whether through his public service, his entrepreneurial spirit or his active joint participation. Alexander and his many friends.”
West Virginia Afl-Cio also mourned around the former delegate.
“As a tireless legislator and a solid member of the business world in West Virginia, Doug was a proven lawyer for West Virginia work families who, regardless of partisan battles, never lost sight of how important it is to treat all people with fairness and consideration,” said Josh Sword, President of the WV-AfL-CIO president. “We are shocked and extremely sad to hear from his tragic death, and hold his wife, children and everyone who loved him in our prayers.”
Andy Walters, the secretary of WV AFL-CIO secretary, said: “It is not easy to stay balanced in the world of politics, but Doug always concentrated on community and family and was a grounded, friendly person who is very missing.”
The West Virginia University, born on November 10, 1976 in Charleston, completed the West Virginia University with a master in Labor and Industrial Relations and a Bachelor marketing.
Skaff represented the 57th district for almost 12 years before resigning as a minority leader of the house in August 2023 and then stepped down in September 2023. He then moved to the Republican party and ran for State Secretary.
In May 2024, Skaff got several snake bites on his feet while he loosened campaign signs from his run for State Secretary in Boone County. After staying in the hospital, Skaff lived with long -term effects of the bite, including nerve damage, which had a particularly impact on his left foot.
In the past few months, SKAFF has bought the Italian restaurant in the city center of Charleston Fazio together with Hale House owner Vincente Cruz. Last post on Facebook shared his excitement about the business.
At the time of his death, Acquisition worked as The President of HD Media Charleston Gazette. He was also the main partner of Skaff Family Limited, owner and managing director for construction and conversion of Warehouse, LLC and Vice President of Skaff Development.
He was also the founder of West Virginia Up all night, Mountaine Maniacs and West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders.
Skaff enjoyed his time as a coach for the youth church basketball League and was a member of Saint George Orthodox Cathedral.
He leaves a woman and three children.
