Charleston, WV (Wowk) – Democrats in West Virginia State Capitol call the current economic state of West Virginia “less than desirable”. However, the Republicans point to a handful of invoices that they believe that they can turn the economy of the mountain.
“I am glad that the governor is now walks, but I hope that he can get to Washington, DC, and some answers on behalf of West Virginians,” said Democrat del. Shawn Fluharty from Ohio County.
Many residents of West Virginia have concerns about the recent swings on the stock exchange and fear a possible recession.
“This affects each of us and it is a direct result of the Trump tariffs,” said Sean Hornbuckle. “To date, there have also been more than 850 jobs at the Trump tariffs since we were in the meeting for West Virginians.”
“I mean we pumped twice in North Central West Virginia this week,” said Democrat Senator Joey Garcia from Marion County.
Senator Garcia refers to job cuts to the National Institute of Security and Health of Professional Safety in Morgantown and the future closure of the novel in Fairmont.
“The economic development and the achievement of jobs in West Virginians must have the priority of this government,” said Garcia. “I don’t think that will happen with this Republican leadership.”
The Republican leadership in West Virginia is more confident. Governor Patrick Morrisey refers to invoices that make it easier to found a company and to receive the licensing professional approval and the draft law for microgrids in order to bring data centers to the mountain state.
The governor also believes that federal financing for broadband internet access is positively influenced.
“If you have the right amount of fiber and broadband access, it can be attractive for companies and people,” said Morrisey. “My heart goes to all affected people. My team has worked hard to help people in need. We will continue to do so whether they are opportunities in the private or public sector for people who have lost their work. Nobody wants to lose their job. We will work and fight so that we can be so many jobs in West Virginia that we can be successful as a state.”
While the legislative regulations are still increasing at the desks of legislators, the state of West Virginia remains an critical priority in this legislative session.
Morrisey mentioned a 400 million dollar deficit in the state income and the expected expenses.
This has caused the house and the Senate to carefully create a budget that lowers the expenses in certain locations in order to finance the necessary programs.
“I think we will check which programs cost, especially programs in which you only have limited flexibility to make immediate cuts. We have put together a budget. We feel good what we did,” said the governor. “I can tell you that there is a good process at the moment that is in good communication back and forth. I cannot predict too much, but I think you will give and take a good thing. People will see the perspective of the manager, and I would also like to see the perspective of the legislator. I hope we will come to a happy medium.”
Democrats in the Lower Chamber have made concern about the fact that the household of the house is financed by West Virginia University by $ 15 million.
Governor Morrisey says that it is too early in the budgeting process to comment on certain cuts, and these changes could still take place before the presentation of a final budget.
