During the hearing, Kennedy was asked by both Democrats and Republicans about his revision of vaccine recommendations and the discharge of the CDC director. Legislators expressed skepticism compared to its decision to replace the entire vaccine advisory committee with its own representative, citing potential conflicts of interest.

“They interrupt me and sir, they are a Charlatan, they are,” said Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) during the heated exchange.

Kennedy defended his actions by explaining that the United States are the “sickest country in the world” and that the changes in the CDC change because they “did not do their work”.

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La) asked Kennedy to compile the recent vaccine advisory committee, which indicates that included persons who are witnesses in vaccination lawsuits could be a conflict of interest.

The hearing also touched the recent decision by the FDA to limit the permits of COVID-19 vaccines to high-risk groups, which argued Cassidy to limit access to vaccines for some people. Kennedy countered that everyone who wants a vaccine can still get one.

Kennedy’s knowledge of Covid-19 death statistics was questioned by Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), who was incredulously that the secretary for health and human services was not aware of the number of American deaths by the virus. Kennedy replied with the words: “I don’t think someone knows”, although CDC data in the United States state about 1.2 million deaths

The hearing takes place in the middle of Kennedy’s withdrawal of over 1,000 current and former HHS employees and several Democrats in the committee.
