Charleston, WV (Wowk) – If you are fed up, you are not alone. West Virginia’s senators say that they share the same feelings and believe that the answer is directly under our feet.
The resuscitation of the coal industry in West Virginia and the reduction in energy supply costs for customers is the goal of two legal regulations from the Senate.
A solution known as a coal -Renaissance law aims to keep the current coal processes going and open modern opportunities for the industry and to expand mining in West Virginia.
According to senators to support the law, the optimal capacity factor for coal -fired power plants is 69%. Industry leaders are currently saying that the number has dropped to around 30% to 40%.
A modern legislative template, which is known as a reliable and affordable electricity law, raises supply companies to rely on West Virginia Coal.
“It is very easy for electrical supply companies. You still have the freedom to choose the energy source you want to create. You can no longer pass on the costs for unreliable and unaffordable electricity to the consumer. You will only pay for what you create, ”said Republican Senator Chris Rose from Monongalia County, who is chaired by the Senate Energy Committee.” If you decide to operate a non -reliable form of energy, you will no longer eat these costs. good condition and we can run them for the foreseeable future.
Other Republican senators in the Senate Energy Committee say that they agree with Rose.
“We have to put these coal -fired power plants into capacity. We have always heard from AEP that the reason why our bills are so high is that we don’t have enough people here, “said Senator Brian Helton from Fayette County.” At the same time, the coal industry produces thousands of jobs. When these coal -fired power plants rise to capacity, our employment in West Virginia jumps up. We have the ability to kill two birds with a stone. We ask AEP to fire these plants and bring our men and women back to work in the coal industry. We will see that our prices have dropped over time. “
Senator Helton and other legislators believe that the support of President Trump and Governor Morrisey for fossil fuels is now at a favorable time to enhance coal production in the mountain state.
The draft law and the Senate Resolution in relation to the coal industry are currently in the energy committee, but should soon make it into the full Senate floor.
