As Donald Trump recovers from the shocking attack on his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, the Republican National Committee and the former president issued a statement in the evening declaring that Trump is recovering and the Republican National Convention will go ahead as planned, beginning on Monday.
Such an outcome would have been unthinkable just a few hours ago, when we saw a bloodied Trump being maneuvered into an SUV and taken to safety.
Despite the almost surreal turn of events, the current presidential frontrunner said he looked forward to “getting together with all of you in Milwaukee”:

As previously announced this evening, President Trump is doing well and is grateful to law enforcement and emergency responders for their quick response. President Trump looks forward to meeting all of you in Milwaukee, where we will hold our convention to nominate the 47th President of the United States. As our Party’s nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision of making America great again.
Note one thing about that statement: Before getting to the main topic of the convention, Trump first thanked law enforcement and emergency responders for their incredible response when the shots rang out. There will be a lot of discussion in the coming days about how that gunman was able to sit on a roof unmolested and undetected, but today we just want to recognize the lightning-fast response of law enforcement in that moment.
Unfortunately, we have experienced moments like this throughout our country’s history, and only by the grace of God and perhaps a few more inches, we are not a country today that mourns an assassinated leader. As bad as this moment is, it could have been much worse and could have reverberated for decades to come, just as the assassination of the Kennedy brothers reverberates in this country to this day.
It was a hectic news cycle this Saturday, July 13th:
GOP regulator chairman condemns shooting as “un-American and unacceptable” and demands intelligence briefing
The assassination of Donald Trump: A date that will be remembered as a disgrace
WILL NOT HOLD BACK: Injured Trump clenches his fist as blood streams down his face
RedState provided much more information about this farce throughout the day. For more reports, check out our extensive ongoing coverage here.
President Biden issued a frail statement on the political violence, while confused voices in the press and social media called it everything from a staged show to a missed opportunity. Disgusting. But barring more bombs, it looks like the Republican National Convention will go ahead as planned — though I’m betting on heightened security — and Donald Trump will receive the Republican nomination and be well on his way to reclaiming the presidency. We can only hope that this is the last time we see this kind of heinous violence, but unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the world we currently live in.
