WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Former President Donald Trump has announced a fresh stance on in vitro fertilization, a treatment that can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

“Your government will pay all costs associated with IVF treatment, or your insurance company will be obligated to pay them,” Trump said Thursday.

However, Trump’s announcement was not well received by some members of his own party.

Republican Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas) said in a post on X: “I am not opposed to expanding health mandates… no matter who is pushing them.”

A spokesman for Harris’ campaign wrote: “Donald Trump’s own program could effectively ban IVF and abortion across the country.”

Trump also spoke about abortion on Thursday.

After his rally in Michigan, he told NBC News that Florida’s law banning abortions after six weeks was “too short.”

Harrison Fields, deputy to Trump’s campaign, explained Trump’s views as he represents a party that is predominantly anti-abortion.

“Let’s face it: There are divisions within the party when it comes to the issue of the sanctity of life,” Fields said.

Vice President Kamala Harris blamed Trump for the Supreme Court’s overturning of abortion rights.

She said Congress should restore it.

“If Congress passes legislation to restore reproductive freedom, I will proudly sign it and sign it into law as President of the United States. With pride,” Harris said.
