The question of whether future President Donald Trump would comment on the controversial spending fight in the House of Representatives has been answered. The novel president was a necessary step blown up Speaker Mike Johnson suggested moving forward with the resolution, calling it a “mistake” and saying Republicans should let Democrats shut down the government if they want to play it that way.

Trump/Vance: A statement from President Donald J. Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance: The stupidest, most inept thing Republicans in Congress ever did was allow our country to hit the debt ceiling in 2025. It was a mistake and is still something that needs to be addressed now. Meanwhile, Congress is considering a spending bill that would provide favorable provisions to government censors and Liz Cheney. The bill would make it easier to hide the records of the corrupt January 6 committee – which provided nothing to the American people and concealed security failures that occurred that day. This bill would also give Congress a pay raise while many Americans are struggling this Christmas. Raising the debt ceiling isn’t great, but we’d rather do it under Biden’s watch.
If Democrats won’t cooperate on the debt ceiling now, what makes anyone think they will in June while we’re in office? Let’s have this debate now. And we should pass a simplified spending bill that doesn’t give Chuck Schumer and the Democrats everything they want. Republicans want to support our farmers, pay for disaster relief, and prepare our country for success in 2025. The only way to achieve this is a ephemeral funding law WITHOUT DEMOCRATIC GIFTS combined with a debt ceiling escalate. Anything else is a betrayal of our country. Republicans need to GET SMART and HARD. When Democrats threaten to shut down the government if we don’t give them everything they want, you’re calling their bluff. It is Schumer and Biden who are holding up aid to our farmers and disaster relief. This chaos wouldn’t be happening if we had a real president. WE WILL BE IN 32 DAYS!
It should infuriate anyone who voted Republican in November that this is even an argument now. If Republicans can’t fight now, with the next election nearly two years away, when can they fight? Fears of a government shutdown are exaggerated and ridiculous. Are there times when it makes sense for everyone involved to avoid this? Sure, but this isn’t one of those moments. With Republicans set to take complete control of the government in a month, there is no reason to pass another bloated CR that gives Democrats exactly what they want.
But it’s not just about spending. Is buried in the Czech Republic Section 605which would essentially stop all investigations and production of documents related to the committee’s misdeeds on January 6th.
First, it declares that Congress will remain in constant possession of all “House of Representatives data”—a broad, nearly unlimited category including emails, metadata, and any electronic communications that touch the official House systems. This means that providers such as Google or Microsoft that store or process this data are mere bystanders and cannot act as custodians for investigators. The House of Representatives claims total rule.Second, courts are instructed to “vacate or modify” subpoenas for House Data. Trump’s Justice Department investigators will now face a procedural minefield laid by Congress itself, no matter how compelling the evidence. Compliance with legal procedures is essentially denied.
Thirdly – and most frighteningly – this protection applies
retroactively. Any ongoing investigation in which the House of Representatives data has not yet been secured is now dead from the start. Existing subpoenas? Canceled. Outstanding arrest warrants? Lifted. Section 605 not only protects future misconduct; it effectively buries the past.
In brief, this CR is another attempt to weaken the novel Trump administration and codify a set of Democratic priorities before Republicans take full control of the government. Doing so now would be inexcusable and a betrayal of the voters who went to the polls in 2024 to bring the GOP to power.
Luckily, it looks like Johnson is starting to get weak in the knees. According to Politico, he is now looking for a “Plan B“This would work more like a pristine spending bill.
Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership team is quietly discussing a Plan B to fund the government amid conservative opposition and vocal criticism from Elon Musk, novel President Donald Trump’s top ally.
The Louisiana Republican is discussing cutting $100 billion in disaster aid and other facilities and instead adopting a “clean CR” — and then moving on to the other issues in the novel year, say two Republicans briefed on the talks are informed. In addition to disaster relief, this would mean, at least for now, cutting $30 billion from farmers and extending farm laws for a year, among other things.
The time to fight is now. With the next elections still years away, the political risks are largely non-existent. If Trump is to succeed, he cannot begin his second term with his hands tied behind his back, particularly when it comes to accountability for those who have weaponized the government for partisan political purposes. I have nothing personal against Johnson, and I readily admit that he has a tough job with such a slim majority, but he can’t just give in here with this CR. If the Democrats want to overthrow the government, then leave her.
