President Trump argued Thursday that prices for “everything” are lower under his watch, even though inflation rates have remained steady at 3 percent since he took office in January.

Trump used Democrats’ Election Day victories after they came out strongly on affordability – the same issue tied to his victory last year – to argue that the issue was “dead” for Democrats.

In a Truth Social post, the president detailed the cost of Walmart’s annual holiday dinner, which according to the retailer’s websiteserves 10 people for less than $4 per person this year. Last year, Walmart’s holiday meal served eight people for less than $7 per person. according to its website.

“According to Walmart, 2025 Thanksgiving dinner under Trump is 25% lower than 2024 Thanksgiving dinner under Biden,” Walmart said President wrote. “My costs are lower than the Democrats in all areas, especially oil and gas! So the Democrats’ “affordability” question is DEAD! STOP LYING!!!”

Trump’s post marks his latest attempt to push back on the Democrats’ affordability message that largely won the party’s candidates in off-year elections in Virginia, New Jersey and New York City on Tuesday. The results represent a turnaround after the president and Republicans won a major victory on the issue in last year’s presidential election.

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Trump claimed that prices had already fallen during his time in office.

“I think they’re down. I think they’re already down,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Wednesday. “I think the biggest problem is that Republicans don’t talk about it. They don’t talk about the word ‘affordability’ and Democrats lie about it.”

But Trump’s views do not reflect that the consumer price index rose 0.3 percent in September and 3 percent in the 12-month period ending in September. according to data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That means prices continue to rise at rates similar to those under the Biden administration.
