Washington -President Donald Trump’s candidate to head the US Senate’s US financial committee, said on Wednesday that he would concentrate on the agency’s workforce in order to manage commercial and border crossings during the top democrat of the committee to hide a death from 2010 in a CBP facility, which he will monitor.

If Rodney Scott is confirmed by Oklahoma by the Senate, he would play an crucial role in the border enforcement of the president and lead an agency who was commissioned to manage the entry ports and the unauthorized migration was stopped at the US boundaries that he concentrated on the CBP staff.

“I will use my experience to enable men and women from CBP to do what they were hired – protect every American by securing our borders and keeping trade and travel in motion,” said the former border patrol boss in his opening declaration to the committee.

Scott added that he would like to concentrate on the morality of the CBP officials and make sure that the latest technology in screenings is used in entry ports to intercept illegal drugs.

“I think it is really important to emphasize a large part of this technology that it only recognizes anomalies,” he said. “It takes an actual officer or an agent to determine whether there is actually something illegal or not. It is crucial that we … use these civil servants and agents in the most effective way.”

Scott was head of the border of the Patrol border, an agency within the CBP, during the first Trump administration and the former administration of President Joe Biden. In this role during the first Trump administration, he killed a guideline according to which asylum seekers had to stay in Mexico, while their cases were pending at the immigration court.

Death in custody

The top democrat in the committee, Senator Ron Wyden von Oregon, expressed concerns about a 2010 death in a CBP station in San Diego that was headed by Scott.

Anastasio Hernández Rojas was arrested by CBP officers where he was beaten and later died of his injuries, said Wyden.

Scott was later accused of hiding the death of Hernández Rojas, said Wyden.

“The San Diego CBP office has pursued the agency’s own guideline and immediately forwarded the incident to external investigators,” said Wyden. “In the course of this investigation, the CBP officials glued about Hernández Rojas”s only video copy and manipulated physical evidence, according to court documents.”

The United States paid $ 1 million to pay a lawsuit by Hernández Rojas’ widow. The US Ministry of Justice in 2015 leaned on to follow Federation against one of the officers or leaders involved in the case of Hernández Rojas.

The chairman of the committee, Mike Crapo, a Republican from Idaho, defended Scott and said that Kristi Noem, secretary of the US Ministry of Homeland Security, wrote a letter to the committee to inform the members that they had checked the incident of 2010 and that Scott’s work “corresponded to his duties, the right and professional standards.”

“Mr. Scott has not hindered any investigations, and he did not take steps to hide facts from investigators,” said Crapo on Wednesday.

Wyden argued that Noem was not a head of the DH in 2010 and that he had spoken to civil servants who were present at the time of the investigation that was present by the death of Hernández Rojas.

“There were these serious allegations of the former head of internal affairs about Mr. Scott’s commitment and the covering of the death of Mr. Hernández Rojas,” he said. “I don’t think this committee should take this letter about the belief. And I have some additional information from those who were there at that time, unlike secretary Noem, who was not.”

CBP has more than 60,000 employees and manages the more than 300 entrance ports at borders, airports and sea set.
