WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Former President Donald Trump lashed out at a press conference Thursday, targeting insults at his political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a press conference lasting over an hour at his Mar-a-Lago home, former President Trump bombarded Vice President Harris with attacks that were both personal and political.
“Kamala’s record is terrible. She is a radical leftist on a level never seen before,” Trump said.
He criticized Harris for not holding a press conference since being named as candidate.
“She doesn’t know how to hold a press conference. She’s not smart enough to hold a press conference. And I’m sorry, we need smart people to run this country,” Trump said.
He also insisted that Team Trump’s strategy had not changed, even though his opponent’s had.
“It’s the same policies: open borders, weak crime measures. I think she’s worse than Biden,” Trump said.
As part of her election campaign, Vice President Harris delivered a message of unity to UAW union members.
“We believe in our country, we believe in each other, we believe in community. We will not fall for these people who are trying to divide us,” Harris said.
She left it to her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, to face her Republican opponents and attack Trump.
“Stay out of our business,” Walz said. “He doesn’t know you, he doesn’t care about your family, and his running mate is just as dangerously backward as he is.”
While Democrats say they see growing energy and momentum behind the Harris-Waltz ticket, Team Trump insists they are in a honeymoon phase that will not last.
“You talk about ‘oh, the enthusiasm.’ Let me tell you, we have the enthusiasm. The Republican Party and I as the candidate,” Trump said.
The candidates will soon have the chance to face each other head-to-head. Former President Trump has agreed to three debates on three different television networks in September.
So far, the Harris team has only agreed to one debate: on September 10th at ABC News.
“I look forward to the debates because I think we need to get things right,” Trump said.
“I’m glad he finally agreed to a debate on September 10th. I look forward to it and hope he shows up,” Harris said.
