WASHINGTON – The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote as early as Tuesday on the federal funding package that will end the ongoing partial government shutdown once it takes effect.

The Senate was voted on Friday evening to approve the legislation after President Donald Trump and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., brokered a deal to scrap the full-year budget proposal for the Department of Homeland Security and replace it with a two-week stopgap measure. However, the partial shutdown began early Saturday morning as the House of Representatives had not yet taken the same action.

The additional time is intended to give Republicans and Democrats more leeway to negotiate an agreement on restrictions on immigration enforcement after federal officials shot and killed two U.S. citizens in Minnesota last month.

Trump wrote in a social media post The fact that lawmakers in the House of Representatives have to accept the package cannot change any further.

“I am working hard with Speaker Johnson to get the current funding deal passed in the Senate last week through the House and to my desk, where I will sign it into law IMMEDIATELY!” Trump wrote. “We must open the government, and I hope that every Republican and Democrat will join me in supporting this bill and sending it to my desk WITHOUT DELAY. There can be NO CHANGES at this time. We will work together in good faith to address the issues raised, but we cannot have another long, pointless, and destructive shutdown that will do so much harm to our country – one that will benefit neither Republicans nor Democrats. I hope everyone will vote YES!”

House Speaker Mike Johnson said during a Sunday interview on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” that he was confident lawmakers would approve the funding package on Tuesday.

“I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with that, though. Remember, these are the bills that have already passed, we’re going to do it again,” the Louisiana Republican said.

The House voted in January to approve two separate packages of budget bills to pass the year-round Homeland Security Act before all six government funding bills are sent to the Senate as one package.

The other six annual government spending bills have already taken effect.

Johnson added during the interview that negotiations between the president and Senate Democrats were an critical step.

“I think there will be some good good faith conversations over the next few days and I look forward to that,” he said.

Some of them these political negotiations Senate Democrats agree on calls for a ban on unidentified and masked federal immigration agents, the operate of body cameras and an end to patrols, among other measures.

But the Democrats in the House of Representatives on the Homeland Security Committee A letter was issued on Sundayand urged her caucus to reject funding for DHS.

“Democrats must act now and demand real changes that keep our communities safe before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) receive another dollar in funding,” they wrote. “That’s what our voters elected us to do – to hold ICE and this administration accountable when they don’t follow the Constitution or the law.”

In the letter, House Democrats urge the Trump administration to end the months-long immigration operation in Minneapolis and, among other things, require immigration officials to obtain warrants.
