During his acceptance speech for the Republican nomination Thursday night at the Republican National Convention (RNC), former President Donald Trump paid close attention to the great state of Nevada. Most notably, Trump recognized Captain (Ret.) Sam Brown, a candidate for the U.S. Senate from the Silver State.
Trump said of Brown:
And by the way, we have a man in this room named Sam Brown who is running for the United States Senate in a great state, Nevada, and he paid the ultimate price. Thank you, Sam. Thank you, Sam. Thank you.
He has probably paid the highest price any candidate has ever paid for public office, and I am confident he will do a great job.
He’s up against a person who’s not good, not respected, a total lightweight.
But I think Sam paid — we’ve actually talked to some senators about this who are so committed to Sam — but he paid the highest price of any senator to run for the Senate. I don’t think anyone has ever… what he did… he was a real hero, a really great human being, and he’s running.
I hope everyone goes out and votes for Sam Brown.
In response to the former president’s words, Brown posted the clip of Trump’s speech on X and wrote:
I am deeply honored to have served our great nation in Afghanistan, and now I am equally proud to stand alongside President Trump as Nevada’s next Senator. Thank you, President Trump, for your unwavering faith in me. Together, we will reignite the spirit of the American dream and restore hope to all. #DutyFirst #MAGA #God bless America

Brown gave a compelling speech to the RNC audience earlier this week, detailing his journey from disfiguring battle injuries to a hopeful road to recovery.
Both Brown and Trump highlighted a policy of tax exemption on tips during their speeches at the RNC. Trump credited the idea to a waitress in Nevada, while Brown has been a vocal proponent of this provision for service workers in Las Vegas’ tourism-driven economy. Incumbent Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen changed her stance on the issue and joined the bill as a co-author after it was sponsored by Trump and Brown in Nevada.
Trump told the audience:
At the heart of our economic relief plan are massive tax cuts for workers, including something that has proven to be very popular. It’s very popular here. In this building and all these stunning hotels, I live in a stunning one. It says no tax on tips. No tax on tips. No tax on tips.
And I accomplished that at a recent dinner in Nevada, where we are leading by about 14 points.
Hello. See you all there soon.
And we had dinner at a stunning restaurant in the Trump building on the Strip. And it’s a great building and the waitress comes over.
‘How is it going?’
Really nice person.
‘How is it going?
“Oh, sir, it’s so hard. The government is always after me because I need tips, tips and more tips.”
I said, “Well, they give you cash. Would they be able to find it?”
And she said, “Actually,” and I didn’t know this, “very little cash is given. It’s all written directly on the check. And then they come in and take so much of our money, it’s just ridiculous. And they don’t believe a thing we say.”
They have just hired, as you know, 88,000 agents to pursue them even more
But I said to her, “Let me ask you a question. Would you be happy if there were no taxes on tips?”
She said, “What a great idea.”
I got my information from a very chic waitress.
In a separate post, Brown shared a photo of himself in the audience while Trump addressed the crowd and wrote:
Thank you, President Trump! I was proud to serve you before, and I will be proud to serve you again at your side!

Brown’s race is hotly contested, as Rosen’s lead of one 14 points ahead in May to a mere Two-point lead in the most recent poll in July. In April, the Cook Political Report The race for the Senate seat in Nevada was upgraded from “leaning Democratic” to “undecided.”
