Trump says he is willing to debate Harris more than once

WASHINGTON – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a conference call with reporters Tuesday in connection with a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, the likely Democratic presidential nominee.

“I would be willing to participate in more than one debate,” Trump said.

Harris, who says she is the likely Democratic presidential nominee, Commitments won By Monday evening, enough Democratic delegates had received the nomination. President Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy for re-election on Sunday and endorsed Harris.

During the call, Trump also said he was not worried about running against Harris because she was “the same” as Biden in her policies.

Later in the call, Trump criticized Harris for the Biden administration’s approach to immigration, an issue he has made a central part of his platform in his third run for the White House.

The Harris team did not immediately respond to States Newsroom’s request for comment on Trump’s remarks on the debate.

Trump also said he was unsure whether he wanted to participate in a debate scheduled for September 10 with then-presumptive Democratic nominee Biden, hosted by ABC News.

Biden’s shaky performance at a debate with Trump on June 27 led to weeks of growing unease among Democrats about his campaign, and members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate called on the president to withdraw his candidacy for re-election.

Trump also noted that he did not agree to the ABC debate because he agreed to “a debate with Joe Biden” and not with Harris.

Harris held her first campaign rally in Milwaukee on Tuesday, where she touted her previous work as a prosecutor and attorney general for the state of California.
