Former President Donald Trump have chosen a page Sunday in the Senate race in Nevada – which is considered crucial to Republicans’ hopes of winning back the Senate in November – and supported former U.S. Army captain Sam Brown to face incumbent Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen in November.

The approval is a setback for the former US ambassador to Iceland Jeff Gunterwho also asked for the support of the former president.

The fight for Trump’s endorsement was tough, but the former president had previously indicated that he might ultimately choose Brown over Gunter.

Trump used Truth Social to praise Brown in his usual all-caps style:

His full post reads:

Sam Brown is a FEARLESS AMERICAN PATRIOT, Purple Heart recipient who has proven he has the “PURE COURAGE” and COURAGE to take on our enemies at home and abroad. Sam is now running for U.S. Senate in the great state of Nevada, primarily because he knows that corrupt Joe Biden and the radical left are A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY. Our country can no longer tolerate this corrupt and incompetent “President” in charge. As your next Senator, Sam will fight tirelessly to secure our border, end migrant crime, stop inflation, grow our economy, SUPPORT OUR GREAT MILITARY/VETERANS, protect our ever-beleaguered Second Amendment, and restore PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH…

Trump then followed up with a post in which he explained that he had met Brown and was impressed by him:

Gunter, however, was dismayed by the snub:

“Mitch McConnell’s money wins, the American people lose. And it keeps happening,” Gunter said in a statement to Fox after news of the endorsement broke.

Brown thanked the former president on social media.

Nevada is likely to play a key role in the November elections. They will determine whether voters want to continue under the continued failed leadership of the Democrats and President Joe Biden. It could go either way:

There have been few polls on the race so far, but a New York Times poll conducted in April and May showed Brown and Rosen neck and neck at 41% each; some are still undecided.

Republicans view Nevada as one of the best opportunities for their party to regain control of the Senate from Democrats, who currently hold a narrow 51-49 majority.

On his websiteBrown describes his deployment in Afghanistan, which ended with devastating injuries from a roadside bomb:

Just four months into his deployment, Sam was on a mission when he received word that another platoon nearby had been ambushed, so he led his team into battle to facilitate his comrades.

As he entered the battle zone, a roadside bomb exploded under his vehicle’s fuel tank, leaving him drenched in diesel and engulfed in flames. By the grace of God, Sam’s gunner was able to extinguish the flames before they claimed his life.

Following the injuries he sustained, Sam was medically discharged from the U.S. military as a captain. In the three years following the explosion in Afghanistan, Sam underwent intensive physical rehabilitation. During this recovery process, Sam realized that God had given him a recent life. A life that would be dedicated to serving God and country.

He could become Nevada’s next senator.
