UP IN THE MORNING
About the video of Deb Fischer’s husband and Kamala Harris circulating on social media
But I suspect that Mr. Fischer is probably much more afraid of losing his balance and falling than he is of being viewed as “characterless” by characterless social media mobs seeking influence because he Harris didn’t shake hands.
Kinzinger claims that both parties have always accepted the election results and is immediately put in a locker
Kinzinger is not only unbearable, but also factually incorrect. Democrats have objected to the election results in every election won by Republicans this century.
Is Jack Smith breaking the rules? Trump co-defendants file motion to block special counsel report
It’s a challenging legal situation, but the drive to prosecute Donald Trump “at all costs” could pose bigger problems for Garland, Smith and others than they originally faced.
WHAT’S UP?
Today on Capitol Hill…
After certifying the 2024 presidential election on Monday, Congress is back in business on Tuesday. We have not yet set a schedule for the hearing, but according to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), we know that the House intends to adopt the Laken Riley Act.
The House of Representatives will vote today on the Laken-Riley Act to ensure that criminals like Laken’s murderer are arrested and deported before they can commit such evil acts.

The House of Representatives will vote today on the Laken-Riley Act to ensure that criminals like Laken’s murderer are arrested and deported before they can commit such evil acts.
REMINDER: President Biden never apologized to Laken’s family for allowing her killer into our country, but he did apologize for calling this monster “illegal.”
Also on Tuesday, the body of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29, will be transferred to the US Capitol, where he will reside lie in the state in the Capitol Rotunda until Thursday, when his memorial service will be held at the National Cathedral.
Looking to the future, President-elect Donald Trump plans a meeting with Senate Republicans on the Hill Wednesday.
What’s going on in the White House?
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill will be in California on Tuesday, where the President will deliver a speech in Thermal/Coachella, Calif., in the afternoon (subject currently unknown).
Full court press…
There was a flurry of activity in Manhattan on Monday, where Trump’s legal team requested a stay of his sentence while they appealed post-trial verdicts. Prosecutor Alvin Bragg’s office objected and Judge Juan Merchan said, “No.” Currently, sentencing is still scheduled for Friday.
Sebastian Zapata, the 33-year-old Guatemalan citizen accused of setting fire to and killing a woman on a New York subway, is due in court Tuesday for his arraignment.
The trial date for New York Mayor Eric Adams on corruption charges is currently April 21, 2025 in the Southern District of New York. (Will this be influenced by Trump taking office?)
As Joe Cunningham reported Monday evening, Trump’s co-defendants in the secret documents case are asking the 11th Circuit to bar (former) special counsel Jack Smith’s release of grand jury materials in delicate of his disqualification.
Morning rumination
I suspect I’m not the only one who breathed a sigh of relief on Monday as Congress fulfilled its earnest duty of certifying the 2024 presidential election and officially declaring Donald Trump and JD Vance the 47th President and 50th Vice President of the United States, respectively. All that remains now is for them to be sworn in on January 20th. I wish I wasn’t waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I suspect I’m not alone in this either. Buckle up, friends.
