On Monday, the RNC Platform Committee adopted Donald Trump’s platform as the Republican Party’s platform for 2024 – and it was shortened from 66 pages to 20 bullet points.
Trump’s main themes are securing the border and ending the migrant crime epidemic, making voting mandatory, requiring voter ID and proof of citizenship, strengthening the military, bringing manufacturing back to the U.S., and ending the militarization of government. The program also opposes any cuts to Social Security and Medicare, including opposition to raising the retirement age, and proposes tax cuts for the middle class, as well as the “no tax on tips” demand that Trump has repeatedly made at rallies. It also emphasizes rebuilding American cities, stressing that they must be “safe and clean” again.
As expected, the program is hushed on abortion and gay marriage, although the ongoing fight against radical gender ideology and the sexualization of children is addressed in two key points:
Cut federal funding to any school that teaches our children critical race theories, radical gender ideologies, and other inappropriate racist, sexual, or political content.
KEEPING MEN AWAY FROM WOMEN’S SPORTS
Typically, the program is voted on every four years, but in 2020, the RNC voted to keep the 2016 program through the 2024 convention, largely due to the restrictions on in-person meetings at that time due to COVID. At the time, however, Trump signaled that he wanted to see a scaled-down program at some point:

On the platform, Trump campaign senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said:
“President Trump’s 2024 Republican platform articulates his vision of making America great again in a way that is succinct and understandable to every voter. While Joe Biden and the Democrats argue over who will be at the top of their list, and have implemented policies that have raised prices for ordinary families, opened the floodgates to migrant crime by wide-opening borders, shackled American energy with red tape enforced by Washington bureaucrats, and sown chaos around the world through a weak foreign policy, President Trump will make America great again through these America First principles.”
Life advocates have campaigned to keep the wording on a nationwide ban on abortion after the 20th week of pregnancy in the platform, but since the Dobbs Many party insiders believe that the cancellation of this plan should not be seen as an indication that the Republican Party is turning away from its pro-life approaches, but rather as an acknowledgment of political reality. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) said Sunday on CNN:
“Well, I think our platform has to reflect our candidate, and our candidate’s position is actually one that is based in reality. The reality is that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade. And that basically means that now it’s not the states, it’s the voters in each state who are going to decide how and to what extent they want to restrict abortion, if at all. Some states will have restrictions. Some won’t. And that’s why I hope our platform reflects our candidate.”
The absence or inclusion of language about abortion (or any other issue) does not limit the position or actions of individual candidates or elected officials on the issue, but the absence of prohibition language takes away an issue Democrats can utilize to scare swing voters—and there are some polls that suggest that Democratic fearmongering will be a huge factor in predicted “red wave” does not materialize.
RNC Chairman Michael Whatley commented:
“Only President Trump can restore our economy, restore our southern border, and restore America’s standing in the world. His Republican Party platform for 2024 is a bold roadmap that will undo the devastating damage Joe Biden’s far-left policies have inflicted on this country, deliver President Trump a historic victory in November, and make America great again.”

Our nation’s history is filled with stories of brave men and women who gave their all to make America the greatest nation in the history of the world. Generations of American patriots have invoked the American spirit of strength, determination and love of country to overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges. The American people have proven time and time again that we can overcome any obstacle or force thrown at us.

They have shielded themselves from criticism and the consequences of their own bad actions and allowed our borders to be overrun, our cities to be overrun by crime, our justice system to be weaponized, and our adolescent people to develop a sense of hopelessness and despair. They have rejected our history and our values. Quite simply, they have done everything in their power to destroy our country.
In 2016, President Donald J. Trump was elected as an uncompromising champion of the American people. He reignited the American spirit and called us to renew our national pride. His policies spurred historic economic growth, job creation, and a revival of American manufacturing. President Trump and the Republican Party led America out of the pessimism created by decades of failed leadership and showed us that the American people want greatness for our country again.
Yet nearly four years into the Biden administration, America is now rocked by rampant inflation, open borders, rampant crime, attacks on our children, and global conflict, chaos and instability.
Like the heroes who built and defended this nation before us, we will never give up. We will restore our nation of the people, by the people, and for the people. We will make America great again.

The Republican National Committee’s first email to the press said, “Read the Committee-adopted 2024 Platform below,” and included everything above in italics with no appendix or reference to a much longer document. The ellipsis in the email indicates missing text, and tardy Monday it was revealed that the platform document voted on by the RNC Platform Committee was 16 pages long and contained 10 “chapters” referring to a 10-point table of contents:

- Bring common sense to our government and renew the pillars of American civilization
