Update – 2:25 p.m. Eastern:

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) left the Republican conference with the news that they had reached an agreement that meant there would be no government shutdown.

He particularly pointed out the following:

“…for disaster victims across the country and for ensuring that military and essential services, as well as those whose salaries depend on the federal government, are paid through the holidays.” I’ll share more details here in just a few moments .”

According to further reports, this will only require a vote – on the bill that failed on Thursday, minus the debt ceiling – and it will be suspended (and therefore requires a two-thirds majority) to pass today.

We will provide further details as they become available.

Original story:

There are several moving parts and the situation is very fluid, but the last According to reports from Capitol Hill, Republicans in the House of Representatives have agreed on a “Plan C” to fund the government and try to avert a shutdown.

Here are the basics:

Two people familiar with the discussions told Fox News Digital that the deal would include a short-term extension of this year’s federal funding, disaster relief funding and agricultural support for farmers – but under three separate bills.

It would also include a handshake agreement to take debt limit action next year as part of massive conservative policy reform planned by Republicans through a process called reconciliation.

At this point, House Republicans are likely to have one Conference session at 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

Here’s some additional context:

On the new 3-Bill approach from the Republicans in the House of Representatives. It needs to be determined whether they can get 2/3 for these bills. If so, they can move more quickly and treat each bill as a suspension. If not, they need a rule to bring up the bills. This will take longer and likely extend the process past midnight etc. This would result in a government shutdown

And something else about the timing and process:

House Republicans will wait to decide when to vote until after the conference session at 12:30 p.m.

If they can pass these suspension bills, they can leave today.

If they need a rule, they can try starting a new legislative day or waiting until 12:01 a.m. tomorrow!

There is no word yet from President-elect Donald Trump on the latest developments, but he commented on the prospect of a shutdown early Friday morning:

If there is going to be a government shutdown, it should start now, under the Biden administration, not after January 20, under “TRUMP.” This is a Biden problem that needs to be solved, but if Republicans can facilitate solve it, they will!

This is a developing story. RedState will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available.
